I park my car like that every time I use it in shopping centres, after having to get my two doors resprayed because of people smacking their own car doors and shopping trolleys off it. Id much prefer to have people call me an idiot and keep my €500 in my arse pocket in future.

    What if everybody did that?

    Enough of the abuse!!!

Ok I've updated my posts but this is absolutely outrageous.

I always thought ppl did this because they were just completely stupid but to do it on purpose.........I just can't believe it.

I have to get out of this stupid country. What hope is there ever of having competent drivers on our roads?

I thought surely progress is being made very very slowly but this......it just brings everything back to the stone age.

People like you are the problem with the roads in this country.
What the hell is your problem?

You are the equivalent to the person who stopped in the middle of a roundabout last week during rush hour to give way to cars coming onto the roundabout. After about 10 cars started blowing at her she deliberately moves on going as slow as possible to cause disruption to the driver behind.

If I saw your car parked like that I'd love to scratch it (and very much enjoy doing it).

Sticks and stones my friend! Like i said ill happily take peoples poor opinion of my parking with the reassurance that my car wont be beaten to a pulp by some careless other parked next to me. Its a survival issue not an ignorance problem.

If everybody did that it would mean that people are conscious of their car being damaged by others, and wouldn't do the same to others cars. As a result we wouldnt have the problem in th first place.

Im sure the OP is wishing she was parked in an isolated section of the car park taking up two spaces, she wouldnt have to fork out for her door now either.

In summary: saving €€€>>>>>>>>>>>>>>taking up one extra car space

What kind of nonsense is this?

Eh.....ppl's opinions of you is the least I'd be worrying about...you are causing disruption.
Things like this drive ppl nuts.....but I suppose it's all about survival isnt it?

    How selfish can you get?

You're probably more likely to get scrapes parking like that in a busy car park than parking properly normally anyway I'd say. Most of the car park incidents I've witnessed have been from people trying to squeeze their car into a space too small for it due to a lack of other spaces available and subsequently knocking off neighbouring cars.

Im not in the least bit concerned to be honest, sorry if that offends you. I feel its much more important to preserve a car i have spent thousands on in immaculate condition than leave some shopper who *may* ding my car with the inconvenience of simply using another parking spot.

If your so "I don't care what other ppl think" why don't you just stick a load of foam on the side of the car with a big sign? :D

Your assuming above that there is another parking space available?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,668 ✭✭✭String

Every day I see idiots swing open the door and hit somebody else's car and then just jump in the car as fast as possible and drive off. Nothing wrong with using 2 spots especially if the car park is empty. I usually use a car spot with only one next to it and park as far to the line or the wall as possible.

I thought my post above criticising this car-nannying behavior would make me more unpopular but it seems most boardies seem to have more common-sense than I credited them for...

You, sir, however are EXACTLY the type of anally retentive, self-centred perfectionist who will trample over the needs of others as long as your precious possession is maintained to you own self-imposed, unrealistic, scruplously high standard.

Like I said, I've parked in a multitude of car parks over many years and haven't encountered a fraction of these problems and when I did i took it on the chin - that's life! Sure if I was dumb enough to run about waving my arms in the air over every miniscule scratch/ding I too would have "spent thousands" on keeping my car in "immaculate condition". Unlike you it appears I have more important things in my life however.

You are either a troll or a moron.

    Or perhaps both...

    no he is not,

why should people put up with other people damaging their posessions? maybe you arent into cars, thats fine then you dont understand, but say for example you liked watches, and you have a nice watch that took you a few years to save up for and buy, would it be ok for some to scratch the crystal or ding the case?

and you are the type who would open his door into someone elses car and not care, and drive away after without a care in the world.

Fair balls to you. I do the same, all the time. The ignorant fúcks are the people who have damaged my passenger door to the point where it needs a respray.

If I could trust other people to be careful enough to show me the courtesy I show them then I would take up one space. The don't, so I'll keep taking two spaces. Tough shít if you disagree..

    BTW Cyrus, well said.

I always assumed that people hanging around on these forums were real drivers...real car enthusiasts.....how wrong I was.

You guys have absolutely no idea what it is to be a real driver. Your just another one of the majority of inconsiderate drivers on the road that could not give the slightest damn about other people, learning the rules of the road or improving the public perception of driving.

The reality is that doing what you are doing damages they way people perceive driving in this country and we already have a bad name as being a nation of sh*t drivers. What chance do we have with the likes of ye around the place???

A real driver will always do whatever it takes to improve the perception of driving...fair enough he might blow the horn or get pissed off to point of shouting out the window at a dumbass driver (theres hardly any point with these - there hopeless) but if he sees a good driver on the road he shows respect and the other appreciates and thats a great feeling.

You guys know absolutely nothing about this and can never call yourself an enthusiast or a competent driver.

I suppose this is just the kind of rubbish you have to deal with in a mainstream motors forum.
Imagine reading this in a dedicated motoring site. or even hearing about it on top gear?? Jeremy would personally escort you out if you admitted such a thing on his show and you'd be getting a good kick at the end of that walk for sure deservedly.

So what you're saying is a "real" car enthusiast is someone who doesnt mind their car being damaged through other peoples ignorance? Get real pal. All my mates that keep their cars in top condition all park in a corner of a car park out of the way taking up 2 spaces.

When you have spent over 8 grand on your car bringing it back to as new condition and have it chipped away at in a matter of months to the extent that it needs two panels filled and sprayed come back to me.

To be quite honest you are talking pure anad utter horse****e to compare me preserving my car from ignorant and clumsy drivers to having poor manners on the road. As far as im concerned its the people damaging others cars that has the problem, as long as people keep doing it then ill keep parking the way I do to keep my car in top condition.

Id be interested to know what your own pride and joy is to have so little concern for its general upkeep?

I didn't say that. That's just stupid now, isnt it?

Ring around for a quote the next time....you should get a better deal than 8 grand for a few door resprays.

I'm not really comparing the two....I'm just saying your not a "real" driver....when I say "real" I mean you just don't have the spirit. Find something your good at and have abit of mindfulness for others. Sure theres some dumbasses out there but your on the same level as them. You let yourself become one of them. You just don't have the spirit mate!!! ;)

You guys all need to go live in Italy, south of Rome ;-)

Personally I would be very careful and left a note and paid for the repairs on the one occasion I knocked into someone (he was _very_ good about it, TBH I think he was amazed both that the damage was possible and that I didn't just run.)

BTW that occasion was on a (push) bike, as he called it.

A real driver will always do whatever it takes to improve the perception of driving...
Where did you come up with that garbage from?

A real driver will have a good car and make the effort to keep it well.

    Perception me arse.
I'm not really comparing the two....I'm just saying your not a "real" driver...

cpoh1 isn't a real driver for what reason exactly.. cos he takes 2 parking spaces? Have you seen the cars cpoh1 has owned? If anyone on this forum is to be called a car enthusiast it's him. He has one of the few truly impressive car histories.

    what absolute shite that is.

If someone bangs a shopping trolley into your Hi-ace and you don't care - fine.

I happen to care about my car and will gladly take up two spaces in a car park if it means that I won't have a door damaged beyond repair by some bastard who hadn't even the courtesy to own up side swiping my car.:mad::mad:

    * sorry about the colourful metaphors - this infuriates me.

I cannot believe what you have taken the time to type, are you demented? Go to the irish bmw or vag site, you'll find a load of enthusiasts there that feel the same as we do, no car enthusiast buys a car to have some oaf drive into it or dent it! You are typical of the ignorance and lack of respect in this country

He's not a "real driver" as he has no regard or respect for other drivers by using two spaces. He may own impressive cars....I don't know....so then he's a good car owner or has good taste in cars....as regards driving them and ettiquette...does not exist.

I mean jeeeeeeeeeesus......using two spaces should be the one of the cardinal rules of driving ettiquette.

How can you honestly be a good driver if you do this????

You know what I do, when I come up to a car that's parked over two spaces?

if at all possible I drive right up to it and park about 5 cm away from the drivers side ..and then I get out of mine via the sliding door if needs be :D:D:D

Yes, it is inconsiderate to damage other people's cars and it is negligent to criminal to just walk away and not pay for any damage ...but having a "nice" car does not give you the automatic right to act the selfish bollo%% and block two spaces for yourself. (especially not if it is a busy carpark).

Find a far away and scarcely frequented corner if you can ...but don't prevent others from parking their cars.
