EU to shut down TV for more profit from mobile?

Ofcom and Comreg want to only have Satellite & Cable. I said that maybe last year.
But perhaps the rest of Europe is not so loony.

The fact is it's an investigation because of what some National Regulators in UK, France and Ireland are proposing/doing.

Mobile needs to use the bands it already has properly.

Also don't be surprised that if in 10 years time better 900, 1800, 2100, 2500 coverage (more bases) and requirement for higher quality TV, portable, not just a roof aerial means the poor for Mobile 800MHz is given back to TV.

We'll see what happens. Not everyone in authority is an idiot only out to raise spectrum licence revenue, which as Fixed Wireless vs Mobile Wireless for Rural Internet shows actually results in WORSE use of spectrum and worse fixed services.

Maybe Terrestrial TV should have 900MHz too to compete with Sky & UPC. The 1800, 2100 and 2500/2600 Bands are more than enough if sensible density of base stations is used, which IMPROVES the speed and capacity compared to giant 700MHz and 800MHz cells only good enough for voice.

My experience with the high density of 2.2 Gig UMTS sites in the city centre is that they are of little to no use for penetrating into the office blocks and so on where they're needed most. If we have to go outside for all our calls while we use ex-MMDS spectrum then we may as well go back to using somophore towers ala some hideous Terry Pratchett parody.

Hah! 800 MHz is already in use in e.g. Germany, has their experience been that it has unsuitable for 4G? In any case, their regulators presumably think that it is suitable for Mobile use.

Of course, Digiweb were even given spectrum somewhere in 400 MHz for use with "mobile" internet, not that their product ever got anywhere.
