Struggling to drink the IPA right now.

Its tastes very similar to this kit but quite a bit sweeter.

Lol, I thought this thread was dead as I haven't been getting emails about it, and I no longer wanted to bump or be associated with the thread title as i've done a full 180 on my opinions of Rye River.

The owner of Rye River messaged me saying no hard feelings inviting me to the brewery(which I won't be doing soon due to me living in Galway, but will pop in if I'm ever eastbound), couldn't have been nicer about the whole thing and he mentioned a few very exciting things they have planned which I'm over the moon about(I don't feel it's in my place to mention what they are).

So yeah I'm totally rooting for Team Rye River now and I have no doubts that the only way is up for them.

You should go visit the Brewery, it would be worth the trip, it's a great day out.

I agree wholeheartedly. There will always be a market for gateway beers as it’s how we all started.

I was out last Friday with some friends and some friend's of friends in the lovely Shearys off the Crumlin Road. I was surprised to see them all making their way through the different beers that were on offer. These were the same FoF’s that used to give me awful stick at parties for drinking that “weird poncy muck”. But the favourite among most of them was the Guinness Hop House 13. I suppose that was the happy middle ground for them between having a safe Heineken and a 8 Degrees Hurricane or Trouble Graffiti, although I was surprised that they were trying the latter ones.

God send of a bar! Great to have such a great pub nearby. Apologies for going off topic, but can ya recommend any other decent pubs around here?

I'd be the worst person to ask! I don't get out much anymore an unless I'm going the usual spots in town Sheary's is the best compromise.

Can someone change the thread title to the Rye River Appreciation Thread? :pac:

I honestly find the response from Niall to be brilliant, shows allot of integrity to calmly put forward his position like that. Many instances with this site where this thread would have just vanished as this went to litigation.

To be fair to him, he's always invited the National Homebrew Club to go out and brew on their 200l pilot kit anytime we want as well.

Quite like their stout you can get in Lidl. Good value and something different than Guinness/Beamish etc.

    Well, this thread de-escaleted quickly!

I've only tried their McGargles stuff.
When it first came out in bottles, I didn't think it was great. However, I tried one of their beers at the Craft Beer Festival in the RDS last year and really liked it. Also, I had their McGargles pale ale and red on draught earlier this year at a wedding and thought it was grand.

Horses for courses. I don't like the "wacky" marketing stuff but their beers really vary from stuff that will appeal to the broad population to the more niche-beer stuff.
    Smart guys.

Have done this before.... a very enjoyable few hours... :-)

Decided to try the "Crafty" stout they have in Lidl, not a bad drink at all, especially at the price. I've had far worse.

I will pick up some McGargles over the weekend and give them a try, the packaging has until now put me off a bit (and I know I shouldn't do that!)

I bought one of the 4 pack samplers which is good value at €7 for 4 330ml bottles. The pale ale was nice, the stout and red ale were ok but I didn't like the ipa at all.

Wow, 9/100. I've never seen a score that low.

So they came third in the American "world championship" of "I can't believe it's not Bud/Coors/Miller"? :D

    I have....the hipster favourite.

Although, this yoke is set to become the hipsters new go too, now that PBR is too main stream and commercialised.
I think ill spare my taste buds the torture of having this :pac:

So it couldn't manage to beat a

Generic pale lager aroma. Taste: cardboard, some malt. Lots of carbonation. Flavor dies in a hurry. Leaves wet cardboard aftertaste. Tried choking down a few more sips, but this was a drainpour. Belongs with Bud, Miller, and stuff I could tolerate back in 2008, but not now.

I tired the fancy frank lager at the festival in the rds last year and really liked it. I'll have to try the lidl beers, where can you get the grafters pale ale?

It's sad really that someone would spend time creating stickers in the same font as the packaging.
