I haven't got that feeling that you get from a song the first time you hear where it makes you go nuts or wow! Gennerally this happens to anything that sounds like something I've never heard before, so how about people post the songs that blew them away in the past (even if only so and so now)? I've got three "life" chnaging ones below. Add what your current favorite song is to listen too right now, after.

    No.1
    The Strokes - Last Night
This drove me crazy when I first heard it. I got to see them in the olympia at 14 yrs old, we went nuts. Still to this day that has been my favourite gig. Their old songs can still give me a lift today if I haven't listened to them in awhile.

    No.2
The Music - Take The Long Road and Walk It
I loved the video, I was 16 with long curly hair and I loved the stone roses and to dance, so I could relate to them. In the video they're all under 20 too and the music just made me wanna go nuts in my room. I would try and copy cat the lead singers dance moves too.

    No.3No.3
M.I.A. - Bucky Done Gun, When i first heard this I was like what hell is that! and who is that savage looking women in the video. Went on obsess about her for years, getting out of it now though, slowly. She cancelled Irish gigs two times on me, sick. She got me into other genres too like reggae and dance. Here's the song anyway, if you like it check "Paper Planes", its a one of her more famous songs and you hear it out even now.

Throw your's up and my music intervention may be complete!

Current favourite track but its not driving me nuts is Ray Charles - Georgina On My Mind

Remember to remain a teenshy bit careful about gigs you mention.

I'll post mine when I'm not feeling so lazy and enjoying the silence.

Ah cool, yeh no problem I forgot about the rule. Think I dodged it enough though without realizing it.

    5 songs, tough one.

    The Clash- Spanish Bombs

No Pasaran and all that. The Clash are probably my favourite band of all time.

    Crystal Castles- Crimwave.

This is my 'M.I.A' of the list I suppose. Modern indie/electronic band that I'm absolutely mad about. I've listened to their self titled CD every day for the last 4 months or so!

    Nouvelle Vague- Blue Monday

    how does it feel?

Thomas Gabel- Anna Is A Stool Pigeon

Modern folk tune, frontman of Against Me! - one of my favourite bands in recent times who play folk-punk stuff.
http://www.myspace.com/tomgabelmusic - sounds far better over there.

    Yeah Yeah Yeahs- Maps.

What a fantastic song. I don't think its aged at all.

edit: couldn't resist. i promise you'll find this madly catchy.
keyboard indie pop stuff. VIDEO.SKIPS. but still.

Other favourites would be: Planxty, Dead Prez, The Jam, Leonard Cohen.

    Hmmm this is a toughy.

    1. Roisin Murphy - Dear Miami.

    2. The Bangles - In Your Room.
This is an oldie but it's been in my head for days.

    3. Camera Obscura - French Navy.

    4. Department of Eagles - No One Does It Like You.

    5. Interpol - Obstacle 1.

Too much effort in thinking what were/are my favourite songs ever. But there would be a lot of PanterA and Carcass in there.

So heres my favourite weekly tunes from over the past month.

    # 18/2/09: Treadstone - Inspirado

    # 11/5/09: Oceanlab - Lonelygirl(Gareth Emery rmx)

    # 4/5/09: Nitrous Oxide - Magenta

    # 27/4/09: Terry Ferminal - Thousand miles

    # 20/4/09: Rex Mundi ft. Susan - Nothing at all

    No.5 Calvin Harris - I'm not Alone - Deadmau5 remix
This could be higher or lower, it's just the fact I only heard it for the first time last week that i put it in No.%

    No.4 Michael Cassette - Zeppelin
Now although this song lacks the wow factor it's just something that I find myself coming back to so often!!! It gave a smile to my face the first time I heard it and it's done the same everytime since too.

    No.3 Eric Prydz - Pjano
I figured i just had to stick Prydz in here somewhere it's sooooooo cheesy!!!!!
    But i love it all

No.2 Roxanne Sting & The Police, Could listen to this all day....

    No.1 Sasha & John Digweed - Northern Exposure - Volume 1
WoW! What can be said this is what i listen to all day.... Note that this snippet from youtube doesn't do this mix justice... If you haven't experienced it yet...... GET IT!
(i've been recommended that volume two west-side is just as good but i only got that recently too)

    1. Glen Campbell - Wichita Lineman [those strings...]

    2. Bobby Gentry - Ode to Billie Joe [which reminded me of this]

    3. Velvet Underground - Rock and Roll [an oldie]

    4. Brian Eno - Music for Airports

    5. Talking Heads - The Great Curve [Adrian Bellew brilliance here]

This thread has reminded me I love The Strrokes, Interpol and Talking Heads- and made me check out Department of Eagles and borrow a Velvet Underground Cd.

    Thread is thus a success.

I'm going to go for a Bjork classic at no.5, just love this tune so much and seeing her perform it live was honestly one of the best live experiences I've ever had!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2r1Ji9_wPc

At no.4 This needs no introduction. Stop Making Sense!!! David Byrne doing Fred Astaire with that lamp always puts a smile on my face!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGa52pQ-z4E

I'm going to go for a great track form a great album that I was reminded of when I watched High Fidelity the other day. Best track one side ones?? The Beta Band. No vid unfortunatley though, just the track.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsbR2dEmHGc

No.2 is a track of Sasha's Invol2ver album, its the last track and its just so uplifting. For the person who mentioned Northern Exposure if you haven't already checked this out then you should, its a masterpiece!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pv1mDGCdSA

I started off with a lunatic from Iceland and thats how I'll finish. This is Mum Green Grass of Tunnel, great ****ing band. This song is just so melancholy and beautiful, chills down the spine!! Cool vid too.

I love that song, actually I love Kate Bush in general.

My current favourite songs are too embarrassing to post (my current playlist roughly comprising of a lot of Bryan Adams, Boyzone [who I'm going to see on tuesday ], Billy Joel, Nsync and Culture Club... The only semi-cool ones are Blondie and The Police). It's the time of year makes me listen to strange music. I'll post when my taste in music comes back.

    In no particular order;

Ignore the naff video on this one.

Can't really think of any others as I have an exam tomorrow and I am kind of pre-occupied. :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

Classic, by far the best version too.

Atmosphere- acoustic guitar, a strong beat, and some fine rhyming.

Ooooh, Leixlip Red, yes, yes, yes! Warszawa is fantastic. I marginally prefer Subterraneans though. It's the
"Share bride failing starcare-line care-line care-line care-line driving me Shirley, Shirley, Shirley, own"
But is it 'careline' or 'Caroline'. That's caused much debate.
Low is fantastic. This clicked during a period of unhappiness and I found that listening to summat like this when you’re feeling down is far better than something happy.

I see some of you like Eno also and Reed. You’ll like my choices then.

    Here’s mine:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jyzgsv4r-8

Jeane – The Smiths with Sandie Shaw. It’s far superior with Ms Shaw.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRNTUV1TetU

    Becalmed – Brian Eno

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm2ciX0_UP8

    Crystal Japan – David Bowie

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuHgjtAK_PE

Caroline Says II – Lou Reed

I’m such a chirpy thing. Can’t you tell from that list

Low is amazing. Just got Heroes last week and I'm hoping to complete the Berlin Trilogy when I finish listening to that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 83 ✭✭Taz86

It's always exciting hearing that stuff for the first time. If you like the Berlin stuff I think you'd like Bowie's 1994 offering 'The Buddha of Suburbia'. It might take a little longer to get into but it would click eventually. No doubt about that. Also, if you like the Berlin stuff I think Station to Station and Scary Monsters should be in your collection too. Heck, just buy every bowie album there is :D Well, that's enough of my rambling.
