Hi there i am having pretty much the same problems as everyone else so any info on anything would be greatly appriciated. Does anyone know if you need all the same documents and that for a civil ceremony as a chapel/religious ceremony?I havent decided on whether to use a planner yet as they all contradict eachother and obviously more expense, so if i can do it myself i will. i am looking at water edge venues, but am being told you dont get married until at least 6 oclock, half 7 and 8 oclock for on the beach although i have found out its illegal to get married on the beach, some venues say they get away with it but not sure i trust that.I feel like im going in circles help!thankyou

Well, IncyWincy finding your post by complete fluke was a god-send! thank you! -

We are planning to get married in Malta in April 14 having fell in love with the Island when we visited last September.

We only have a small party - 7 of us - decided to bin the big hotel wedding here and do what we wanted to do instead of what other people expected us to do! lol

If you can share anything at all. Would be so grateful, especially photographer and flower man. We don't want a church thing (been there done that) a hotel ceremony would be great but we have such a tiny party not sure if it would be feasible. Have you ever thought of becoming a Wedding Planner lol

    many thanks x

    Hey

I joined this forum a few months back sharing ideas about weddings abroad and photographers etc....well the wedding is over and done with and for anyone who is thinking about getting married abroad, think Malta!! I am not just saying this now but we are still waiting to wake up from a dream..even my dad said this morning he feels like it was all a dream the way it all ran so smoothly and how it was so romantic and magical...

I want to share our experience and hopefully get some more couples to experience the dream day without putting themselves under enormous financial strain.

To get married in Malta starts with getting your usual letter of freedom from your parish priest. There was no fuss about a pre-marriage course, it was entirely up to us. We are together since school so have ironed most things out at this stage. Anyway Malta is quite religious with a 97% attendance at mass but the whole pre-marriage course was deemed unnecessary.

For the legal side of things...We contacted the Marriage Registry Office in Valletta and they guided us through the whole process. Basically the forms were available online and they just needed to be stamped and signed by a commissioner for oaths. Then we sent them back with birth certs, copy of passports and witnesses copies of passports. A small fee and it was sorted.

For the religious side of things...we contacted the Archbishops Curia in Valletta and sent on our letters of freedom and communion and baptismal certs.

To book the venue and the chapel I made a short trip over (2 days) and organised and booked the chapel, hotel, florist and photographer. This was a cheap ryanair flight last February and it made all the difference as you need to see a church/chapel and venue before booking anywhere you choose.

A small chapel in St. Pauls bay was chosen where the sacristan took care of the organist and the flowers for less than 100 euro. Contact was kept throughout the months leading up to the big day.

The Radisson in Golden Bay Malta was chosen and again the link person emailed with up to date menus, cake options and decoration ideas.

The florist was first class, he was recently involved in the flowers for the pope's visit to Malta..and even though he was used to doing flowers for weddings up to 1900 people, our group of 32 made no difference, we still got a great service and for 130 euros I got an orchid flowing bouquet, 6 orchid button holes and an orchid corsage for the bridesmaid...I dread to think what that would have cost me here...anyways....

The photographer specialises in Irish weddings in Malta and is also trying to break into the Irish market and set up an office in Dublin. My husband is a hobbyist photographer and still cannot get over the service we received and as for the photos, they are excellent....he has friends who are photographers and said the same service would have cost us 2,000 euros here when all we paid was 200 for 4 hours work and all our 300 photos on cd ...yes I know photographers differ but this guy was clever, he took photos without us knowing, his attention to detail was unbelievable...he was just a natural photographer and nothing was staged or fake looking.

The wedding car cost 30 euro, the wedding cake was 75 euro (100 cupcakes and a large top cake), corkage was 5.50, champagne corkage was 8.50, chapel flowers 30 euro..guests included a florist and a chef who both were shocked at the prices and what we got....

I am probably going into too much detail here but if you are 30 something and want an intimate, romantic wedding in a sunshine guaranteed location then I highly highly recommend Malta....we are both 35 and always said it would be abroad so 32 family members and friends joined us for the best day of our lives....in total we got married for less than 3000 and some guests think we paid at least 20,000 for what we got....a chapel in a fishing village, a five star silver service meal to die for and an evening of romance, fireworks and chinese lanterns....if anyone out there wants business names or finer details I would be more than happy to pass them on.....I mean it, I would not offer them unless I was 100% guaranteed they were reliable and good value for money.

Aside of the cost, absolutely nothing went wrong on the day, the food at the hotel was the best i have ever tasted, the staff were anticipating my needs all evening, the balcony was lit up with citronella candles as I told them about the irish and mosquitos!!! the bridal suite was fantastic and the whole experience will be with us forever.[/Quot

Hi there, I'm planning on getting married in Malta in June in St julians bay. I came across your post and would be so so grateful for any info you have regarding photographers, florist wedding car, paperwork. Just anything you have would be great as I have decided to do this without a planner due to my budget and feeling a bit daunted by it all!!.

Huge Thank you in advance xx

    Hi Incy Wincy,

Your page is Fab. Me and my partner are going to Malta to get wed in June, we are the only ones going, No family so should be very romantic.

When I contacted the Malta registry office they sent us out all the form apart from one. "Certificate of Non Impediment". If possible could you tell me if u needed this form and how much did it cost you to get it signed. Also did u have a RZ2 form which needs to be signed by a commissioner of oaths.

The only other thing was what photographer did u use? as I only need one for 1 hour really and the ones that I have contact are saying a 350 euro for up to 3 hours. Sorry loads of questions...

Thanks very much and congratulations xx

    Hi,
My partner and I have decided to get married in August this year in Malta. We would like to do all of the planning ourselves as we are on a tight budget. If anyone has any time, I would really appreciate any advice on photographers, flourists, wedding cars etc. I'm so excited about what our wedding day could be like but I am anxious to make it a reality. Any help would be much appreciated!

    Hi DenoKiller,

Here is a document that I had saved for the planning of my wedding. Hope it helps. (I cannot remember where I found it)
Also can I make a suggestion, It is much easier to consult a wedding planner than trying to do this alone. I found a true angel in Anna of wwwmaltaeventdesigncom Honestly, she has been so helpful, professional, attentive, the list goes on and to boot, her fee it affordable in comparison to other planners in Malta.

Documents Required for Getting Married in Malta

In order for the wedding to be legally binding then you need to have the following legal
    documentation in place.

[1] Rz1 - to be signed by groom and bride. Bride has to indicate which surname she will be
    using after marriage.

[2] Rz2 - to be signed by groom and bride in the presence of a solicitor, not earlier than 3
months prior to date of marriage. The Solicitor is to sign, date and stamp the declaration.
    Please use separate forms.

[3] Groom's and bride's Birth Certificate / Adoption Certificate (showing also parents'
names); an original or a true/repeated copy authenticated by the competent authority
that issued the document + any Deed Polls.

[4] MARITAL STATUS RELATED CERTIFICATES – certificates are to be issued by
your Local Registrar not more than 3 months prior to the intended date of marriage. Please
    vide table below:
    SINGLE

Spouses have to prove that they have never been married and that
they are still single. Thus they have to provide this Registry with a
FREE STATUS CERTIFICATE or a CERTIFICATE OF
NO IMPEDIMENT or a NO TRACE LETTER.

    WIDOWED
    PERSONS
Certificate of first marriage - an original or a true/repeated
copy authenticated by the competent authority that issued
    the document.

Death Certificate of late spouse - an original or a
true/repeated copy authenticated by the competent authority
    that issued the document.

FREE STATUS CERTIFICATE or a CERTIFICATE OF
NO IMPEDIMENT – stating that they are still widowed and
have not contracted any other form of marriage

    DIVORCEES
Divorce or Marriage Annulment Court Decisions - an
original or a true/repeated copy authenticated by the Court
that delivered the judgment or decree.

FREE STATUS CERTIFICATE or a CERTIFICATE OF
NO IMPEDIMENT – stating that they are still divorced and
have not contracted any other form of marriage since their
    divorce.

    FREE STATUS CERTIFICATE
    CERTIFICATE OF NO IMPEDIMENT
    NO TRACE LETTER
If none of these certificates is issued by your Local Registrar, then make use of the 3rd Party
Declaration… which declaration has to be completed by a member of your family or a
very close friend in the presence of a solicitor not more than 3 months prior to the date of
marriage. It is absolutely necessary that the solicitor signs, dates the declaration and affixes
    his personal stamp or seal.

[5] PHOTOCOPY of groom's and bride's passport; just the page with the photo + a valid
    visa

[6] PHOTOCOPY of witnesses' passport (also, please tell us where they live, just the
    town/city/county and country).

    [7] Occupation of spouses.
Documents at [3] & [4] above, you can ask to have them issued in the multi-lingual
version, otherwise they have to be translated into English by an accredited
translator. These documents (the originals and their relative translations) must also
be apostilled or legalised by the competent authority in the country where they were
issued in accordance with the Hague Apostille Convention.

WHAT IS AN APOSTILLE? “… Examples of public documents for which Apostilles
are issued in practice include birth, marriage and death certificates. Apostilles may only be
issued by a Competent Authority designated by the State from which the public document
emanates. The Apostille is placed by the Competent Authority on the public document
itself or on an allonge. The effect of an Apostille is to certify the authenticity of the signature,
the capacity in which the person signing the document has acted, and where appropriate, the
identity of the seal or stamp

WITNESSES: The witnesses must be 18+ years old and must provide either their passport
or Identity Card for identification purposes.

CAPACITY TO MARRY ABROAD: Please do enquire with your local Marriage
Registrar whether you have to do any formalities in your own country so that your marriage
in Malta will also be valid and legal in your country of domicile.
May I finally remind you that the Marriage Registry forms (Rz1 and Rz2), duly filled
in, together with the other documents required and the relative Marriage Registry fee
should reach this Registry by post not more than 3 months and not less than 6 weeks
prior to the date of marriage.

Documentation required for Catholic Church wedding for bride & groom as follows:
These are the documents needed for a Church Wedding to be celebrated outside the
    spouses’ Diocese

Documents prepared by the Parish priest:

    Hi Incy Wincy,

I know its a while back when you posted about your wedding in Malta! I'm a newbie at this, just joined yesterday and I came across your post!!
Myself and my Fiancee have just come back from Malta and booked a beautiful venue for our Wedding next June 2014!!
Now its deciding on the finer details. I would love to hear more about the different vendors you used- I'm not quiet sure where to start! You seemed to have gotten some brilliant deals. If you wouldn't mind sending on more info, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks :D

    Hi,

Going to Malta for a holiday and planning on popping the question over there. Just wondering what Malta is like for buying engagement rings? is it expensive?

Aside of the cost, absolutely nothing went wrong on the day, the food at the hotel was the best i have ever tasted, the staff were anticipating my needs all evening, the balcony was lit up with citronella candles as I told them about the irish and mosquitos!!! the bridal suite was fantastic and the whole experience will be with us forever.

Hi my partner and I are hoping to get married in malta, I would be so grateful if you still had details of your florist, & cake maker. we are considering a company called IONTAIN weddings uk based. Its working out at 3395 for the Sunset Bay, I think the wedding would take part in the North Of Malta near st. Julains , Would your Venue be clos If you could let me know i'd be delighted to hear from you as your post was very informative.

    Many thanks

    Hi everyone,
Decisions Decisions!!! I've never been to malta but it looks so beautiful if anyone can give us any information, we were thinking of using a wedding planning company, but wondered is it possible to do it on our own if we don't speak the language etc, maybe a trip over to malta would be wise!!

I came back to Malta after a 3 years... Gorgeous place... Went to many weddings there... There are many villas to rent out... For the reception. One below Mdina called The Olive Gardens. Beautiful at night with the ancient city as a backdrop.

Go to Facebook and ask on the 'feel @ home malta' page/group. Antonella will help
