Just thought I would start a thread, Harry came out today and said he didn't need to strengthen his team anymore as our injury crisis is over although I would really love to see Marin come to the club at some stage I don't see where we really need to strengthen?

I think our number one priority should be remain a top class striker, Adebayor is only a short term fix. After that, another top CB is needed, Samba would be ideal.

Big push in Jan transfer window to get us 4th come may , anything less and we will be losing Bale and Modric.

I'd go back in for Rossi with a much lower bid as Vilarreal are in the horrors by all accounts.

I honestly can't see us spending much in Jan. If cahill is for sale due to his contract situation, we will most likely bid for him, not sure of anything else.

I`d also like to see us try and get Rossi, but I doubt it will happen in January as he is out injured long term with cruciate ligament damage.

    A CB and that's it .

We won't spend much in January. If Levy was reluctant to give Redknapp money in the summer, than he'll be even more so in January. The only thing i'd really want us to get is a quality center back. A world class striker would be nice, but Ade is good enough for now.

Cahill may be over-rated and the figures of 15M+ are a bit nuts but I think he's still the best option out there that is a realistic target for Spurs.

I know people keep mentioning Samba but is he really the same standard as Cahill or is he much better then what we already have.

Sure, the guy is a monster in the box when he goes forward for set pieces or for the last 10 mins when blackburn are lossing but we need a CB that can defend and one that we can build our defense around.

I believe we need a CB but dont think we will go for one in January. The only reason we will get one is if Bassong is sold imo. At that stage we should have Dawson, Kaboul, Gallas, Corluka, Bassong and King Ledley all fit fingers crossed. As for the striker situation I believe this will be left until the summer aswell.

I have been saying all year that James Forrest is exactly what we need, offer Luka in a swap deal I say :pac:

i suppose it depends on if or more likely when pav is sold.another striker is the most likely buy.maybe a recognised left back to cover bae aswell.its unlikely that we spend big tho.

Unless a truly top-drawer striker could be signed in January then I'd rather soldier on with Pav until the summer. There is no point in getting rid of him and getting a similar level replacement who'll be surplus to requirements come the summer.

I can't see us doing too much business in January. Gomes might leave, and a Cahill in - Bassong out scenario will be in play I'd assume.

I wonder if Bolton would take Bassong on loan for rest of season if we were to purchase Cahill for 5-10M. (out of contract this summer isn't he?)

As mentioned above, I can see HR making a move for Rio, he's always been a big fan. Not sure how to feel about that one to be honest.

Another player I'd love to see us move for is Hoillet @ blackburn. He had a great 2nd half to last season and is doing well so far this season. I read in the BBC gossip column this morning that he's out of contract soon and blackburn are putting a £15M price tag on him to warn us off .... which is a ridiculous figure if he is out of contract in next 6 months.

Yeh Football365 had it at 18M. Surely they should be trying to get the best figure they can considering he could leave for nothing in the summer

Apparently Newcastle are monitoring his situation too. We can't really compete with a top 3 side can we? :P

Wouldn't think there is much chance of us signing rio, due to his age and recent injury record. He'll probably head off to the MLS to finish his playing days.

It's a natural link given that Harry helped bring him through at West Ham, but Rio is too injury prone these days to be shelling out his wages every week when we already have Ledley on the books.

Rio? Ye must be taking the piss.. He's been brutal the past few months plus he only plays half, if even, of the season, the other half he's off around Europe visiting every availible physio. Add to that he was United's top paid player before Rooney's little tantrum, so he'd be demanding ~£150,000 a week, no thank you. There's far better value out there. Even Cahill at £20 million, which in itself is ludicrous, is better value than Rio on a free.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭keane=cock

personally always thought rio was overrated and anytime he was on his own ie not with a strong vidic type defender he was found wanting. big strong centre forwards mauled him and made ****e outta him. we already have bassong so why geta another over hyped equivalent?

I guess we'll just have to trust Harry if he does sign him. (re: parker)

Apparently fee has been agreed for Amauri from Juventus... Not a bad signing if true!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,631 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

I remember been linked with him a couple of seasons ago.

Is is a loan deal in Jan or a permanent transfer?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,631 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

Just checked out his Wiki page (which is brutal).

His stats wouldnt exactly blow you away.

Seems to have been a very late starter in the game. ... didnt make the grade as a kid and was playing Sunday park stuff at 19 y.o. then some amatuer stuff in europe before signing for a few itialian teams and was farmed out on loan left, right and center. Still cant see why Juve paid €22 for him a few years ago.

We continue to be linked with Lukas Podolski this year any thoughts?

No thanks, soldado or cavani would be nice ;)

I've seen Moussa Dembele linked with us on a few occasions now, with a fee of £10 million generally the price. Can't say that I've seen too much of him but he was good tonight against Arsenal and got man of the match also. Just looking at his wiki page: he is 24 and his goal:game ratio is not great for an advanced midfield/forward player. Still, he could be a useful addition.

No better than what we have already. I wouldn't be going mad buying anyone in January unless we got a bad injury or something or unless we sold a regular which is unlikely.

He just doesn't score enough really Harry was right on Ruiz as well though, so really in Harry I trust.
