    Hi everyone,

I am male, in my mid 20s and have just moved to Galway a few weeks ago. I would like to start a meeting of people who are new in Galway. During the week, in any pub, just talking and having fun. Anyone interested?

There's a meet up organised for this Friday in the Galway City section, it's at the top of the page there :)

I don't know many people in Galway and it seems difficult to meet people when out as they all seem to be in groups and don't really go outside that . I love the Roisin and Massimos etc ... i find anywhere on cross street to be a painful experience .
I've joined some classes etc but most people are a good bit older than me .... im in my mid 20's and would like to meet some mates (and possibly a cute boy :D ).

Anywhere is a lonely place when you don't know many people and i am not keen on that going on for too long . Any one been in the same boat and have any suggestions ?? Thanks xx

    Hello Funky,
Fair dues to you, doing the classes. A lot of people wouldn't have the courage to do that. It takes time to blend in to anywhere. I'm not from Galway originally either you see.

Galway City Macra (They have a Facebook page) can be a good place to start. Most people there are in their 20s. I left it though as I found a few people there cliquish.

I've started the Swing Dancing classes on Monday nights (See Galway Swing site). Good crowd there and they seem friendly.

One thing I learned from my college years is don't appear to be very needy of friends. Keep up the classes/pastimes etc, and the friends will develop of their own accord. Hope it works out for you!

Yeah sure guys! I'd be willing to meet up as well. I've been here 10 yrs, but I know that it is hard to make friends here.

Actually this may get interest here if there's any-one up for it lol! I'm very into the dance called Linedance. It's an old-style American traditional dance traditionally danced individually in single line formation. The dances can be quite fast and also slow danced to a wide range of songs lately more-so popular music, not just the original country n' western music used. You can search linedancing on the net for more info. on it. I guess it includes some aspects of several types of dance, aerobics as there are some arm movements involved, with some step-dancing steps, and then other moves may be slightly similar to street hip-hop in the more modern songs used.

But getting back to the point of this Post, I really enjoy this form of dance, but unfortunately there are not many classes held in and around Galway, plus also where the classes have started up already, it is difficult to join those as they may have been working on other dances before you join lol!

So if any-one males or females would be interested in taking up linedance as a course of classes, possibly could be the length of a season or 10-12 classes please let me know a.s.a.p! It's a form of exercise, gets the heart-rate goin' and great craic and fun to be had for all!!

Obviously commitment to attend (maybe not every single class but most!) would be fairly necessary to organise a Class instructor, and ensure sufficient numbers go to continue holding classes. I think most Instructors run pay-as-you-go classes, rather than paying for a course of classes, but again attendance is vital for this to go ahead and its' continuity.

So! If there's anybody out there interested in starting Linedancing in Galway; please do let me know! Remember it's exercise n' fitness, dance and most of all fun, all-in-one!! :)

i don't know about line dancing, best of luck with organising it, but have you ever tried swing? Very easy to learn and Galway Swing run a lot of good classes too! There was a great crowd there in Monday night in Cuba for it.

Hehe yeah it seemed a good idea at the time! Going on past experience with it though, classes do seem to attract more females than males. :p And with the talk of classes and meeting new people on this Thread, I just said I would post here! All is not lost. It was a suggestion, an idea. :) I gave it a shot, can't do much more than that. :D

Personally not into swing dance but thank you very much for your suggestion.

Sorry that you've been hurt Camileo. I've lost friends too. I've learned the hard way that most people put their own interests first. The up side is that you'll make more and none of them are irreplacable.

cHEERS TALLMAN BUT THE ONLY THING THAT BOTHERS ME IS WHEN THESE PEOPLE ARE NOW IN THE SAME BOAT. THEY ARE NOW ALONE SEEKING NEW FRIENDS TOO AND SEEM TO TALK TO STRANGERS WHO THE'VE NEVER KNOWN OR WHO NEVER DID ANYTING FOR THEM AND JUST COMPLETELY SHUT AWAY PEOPLE WH'VE ALWAYS BEEN THERE FOR THEM FOR NO APPARENT REASON. IT GETS UP MY NOSE TO BE TREATED BADLY BY PEOPLE WE DO ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT

They seem to be on maybe in the Pucan or Aras na Gael..I'll ask my brother, he is always looking for this sort of stuff around town and for people who like it.
