    Hi guys,

I am looking for HSE approved kitchen in Dublin that I can rent for several hours per week for my artisan food production. I have been searching for a while but I couldn't find it in Dublin.

I am looking something like a shared use community kitchen that available in Co. Leitrim - http://www.thefoodhub.com/kitchen.html

Please let me know if you have any information!!!

    :-)

I've heard that the Quaker House in Rathfarnham has kitchen facilities for rent.

There was a supplement with the irish times a while back that named some places like this.
Give Bord Bia a shout or your local county enterprise board.

Also consider trying other places, I know someone who rents their local GAA kitchen on Mondays when it is not being used. Local community centres and places like that sometimes have HACCP approved kitchens and might be delighted with a bit of income.

Fumbally Exchange are expanding, and planning something called "FEx Craft" which might include kitchens. Could be worth contacting them.

I guess you already know, -you could get your home kitchen HSE certified.

    You can? Is it difficult?

It depends on what you want to make. You can make cakes/breads/biscuits/jams/chutneys and variants of those, but you wouldn't be allowed to do meat pies, for instance unless you have the right equipment - chillers etc.

And no, it is not difficult. You just call your EHO, they will tell you what you need to do, usually two sinks, separate fridge - but it all depends on what you want to do.

I haven't done it, I was surprised at how easy it sounded, think it was on some tv documentary.

I hate those pdf links, if the first does not work look for "Guide to Food Law for Artisan/Small Food Producers ..." down the list in this link

Jaysus lads, I bought homemade brown bread from the back door of a woman in Ashford once, made with milk from her own farm, made in her own kitchen, no bag, labelling etc etc it was about 1984, I ate it, was probably the nicest bread I've ever eaten and guess what, I'm still alive and no food poisoning !

Health and safety gone absolutely mental in this day and age.

Baking isn't a problem, You can still sell that no problem its more to do with processing cheese, meat and fish that gets more difficult.
Lots of potential for problems if its not done properly.
Its not health and safety its environmental health thats the issue.
