Six outboard engines were taken from Nenagh Boat Club Dromineer last night.
Most were Yamaha 4 stroke 8 to 15 hp.

One of them was a Yamaha 8hp standard shaft 4 stroke
Serial number SN FH S 1002237
Stamped in several places with personal number 19226

Any information to Garda Siochana Nenagh 067 50450

Keep an eye on your outboards there is a lot of this going on, if you can bring them home or take the cowling off and put a bag over the engine.

    .

A bit more info on two more.

    Yamaha 8 hp 4 stroke no. F8CMH 68T S 003084

    Honda 8 hp 4 stroke no. 1303756

Please be careful when buying a second hand outboard if it turns out to be stolen it can be taken off you and returned to it's owner leaving out of pocket, think more about where the engine came from than how good a deal your getting.

    Taken form IWAI.

** Notice ** Please Share : Over the weekend a group of thieves raided the boat yard of the Enniscorthy Slaney Rescue organisation.Leaving them effectively in operable. Valuable out board motors and equipment were stolen in this vile and hideous crime. This is not only a devastating blow to the Slaney rescue team but an attack on our community and common decency. The people who planned this foul raid, have committed the lowest crime against humanity itself. I would appeal to anyone who were around the area of the promenade, or in the vicinity of The riverside hotel on Friday or Saturday to contact the local Gardai. I would also like to appeal nationally, to the fraternity of boating enthusiasts and fishermen alike to be aware of outboard motors or boat equipment that may come up for sale at unusually low prices. This is a relatively small closed market so please contact the authorities if you feel suspicious of the seller or the equipment . The people of Enniscorthy are shocked and disgusted at such an outrageous theft, and deeply feel saddened for the Slaney rescue team ,who are a totally voluntary organisation dedicated to the common good and have brought dignity and closure to many Families from Enniscorthy, Wexford, Kilkenny, Carlow and further afield. We hope they can recover from such a set back, because I am sure the people of Enniscorthy and surrounding districts will not be lacking in help in what has become now" their hour of rescue".

WTF is it with these scum and targeting voluntary rescue organisations?

I hope they never need rescuing.

(and the irony is, if they did, they'd be saved without complaint, or monetary charge :mad:)

A boat used for the recovery of the bodies of drowning victims has been stolen in South County Monaghan.
The ‘Lode Star’ branded 2.6 metre long bright grey RIB inflatable boat with blue trim (See Image) was stolen from a compound at Greaghlone lake in Magheracloone outside Carrickmacross and close to the County Cavan border in the early hours of Friday last 29th November.

The boat was the property of Carrickmacross Divers Search and Recovery Unit and its theft greatly compromises the specialist voluntary service which these divers have provided throughout the region for many decades. The divers had been undertaking underwater body search training on the lake over several weekends when the theft occurred.

“We are asking whoever took our boat to return it or to please leave it someplace where we can collect it,” said Pat Butler of Carrickmacross divers who can be contacted at 087 2988119.

Gardai in Carrickmacross are requesting the help of the public to locate the boat. They would also like to hear from anybody who may have observed any suspicious activity at Greaghlone Lake prior to the theft and can be contacted at 042 9661222.

    It looks like this.

Boat stolen from Dodds shore Ballindoon Lough Arrow yesterday morning Sunday. It was last seen on camera passing through Castlebaldwin Village at 10.11am. It was being towed by a late 90's pale green Toyota Avensis and a silver trailer with red wheel rims. It is suspected that they may have travelled towards Mayo/Galway. Plase share especially in the Sligo/Mayo/Galway/Clare area. Picture of stolen boat as it passed through Castlebaldwin yesterday morning.

Will keep an eye out for this around the Galway area. Anything distinguishing about this boat? Just in case it's repainted?

Also keep an eye on Donedeal. If you do see it take a screenshot immediately!

Thanks for that, if you take a look at the add above it points out some distinguishing rod holders and a few other bits.

Suzuki 300APxx Ser.No 30002p-311272 stolen in Cork. http://www.donedeal.ie/boats-for-sale/stolen-suzuki-300hp-update/7497830 Not an easy thing to run away with and by the look of the boat they would have been very messy looking guys.

I think it is well known most of these are taken apart and go to the UK via Larne/ Stranraer. It is operated by proper mechanics who know exactly how to strip and palletise larger outboards before loading them into vans at speed.
Normally these outboards will be in the UK before it is even noticed they are stolen here.
The northern route is well known not just for outboards but also for cars stolen in N Ireland and has been successfully used for quite a number of years.

    Hi,
When boats with outboards have been stolen quite often the boat is discarded as they are difficult to sell on and some have been found in Scotland.
Outboards are very easy to sell on as many people do not record their serial numbers and quite often they are broken down for spare parts.
A lower unit or electrical components for a large outboard can fetch considerable money. These can be very difficult to trace again on the second hand market.
Many marine and commercial engines and parts have been discovered in Eastern Europe. I say this without pointing the blame at any sector of the community here in Ireland as these gangs seem to be operating out of Ireland and the UK solely with the intention of carrying out these thefts and not as general members of our own community in Ireland no matter where they may hail from.
I am also aware some of these thefts are being carried out by local people and sold through persons based in Belfast who in turn have a market for these items overseas.
This information comes from chatting to people who spent time carrying out these thefts and bragging about them. Unfortunately they were only the small fry and usually only had the stolen items in their possession for a few hours therefore making it very difficult for the police to actually capture them in the act.

I think we in Ireland need to be more prudent with our boating items and make sure they are no longer easy targets for these gangs. When we were growing up we could leave a small outboard unlocked on the back of our tender all summer with no risk of theft, those days have changed and we all need to change accordingly.

The Guards and the PSNI are all working on limited resources and unfortunately theft from boats is not going to be high on their agenda so it is up to us to make it as difficult as possible for these thieves to continue to see Ireland and the UK as soft targets.
Please everyone lock outboards and boats with proper locking systems, record the serial numbers of every item and where possible have markers placed on the items which may make them less attractive to be stolen.

My own brother keeps an Avon 4.65 rib with a 50 hp 4 stroke outboard on a good roadworthy trailer at a rural secluded residential premises which is unattended all day and many weekends with no security whatsoever and no matter how often I bring the matter of security up I always get the same answer , "it been there for years and nobody has stolen it". I also know these thieves (local people) operate in this area and it is only a matter of time before the boat is interfered with. It could be hitched on and in Belfast within the hour.
We all need to be more vigilant.

Dun Laoghaire Harbour has its own harbour police, they just got a brand new 4x4 (or van) so they can sit more comfortably all day and night - at least I havent seen them doing anything else around.

    Good news everyone...

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0707/713224-boats/

"Boating equipment worth €150,000 have been recovered by gardaí investigating the theft of boat engines. The haul included 74 outboard engines, 10 boats and eight boat trailers. [...] "

EDIT: I guess that's what catastrophy was talking about.
