Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

A6 timing belt/chain?

    Hi.

    Can anybody tell me when my A6 2,0 tdi 2008 needs it's timing belt done or is it a chain???

    It suspect it's a belt and ling life ie 180,000 km ???
    It currently has 135.000 km and no belt done yet.

    It has a belt I'm nearly sure.
    In this case your car is just 6 years old and it should be replaced immediately. This is because they perish with age and I've never seen any manufacturer recommend more than 5 years on any belt.
    If you can then I'd definitely get it in asap to be honest.

    No problem, maybe a search of your engine code in Google will return a better answer as I am not 100%.

    Just to check this also VW Touran 1.9 Tdi '08 with 50K miles - belt or chain and when due please?

    Belt again, should be done a year now with age.
    Otherwise I think it's 100k km.

    A friend does mine so I can't comment, but what I hear is €400ish and 3 hours in general.

    Competent depending on the car though, either value could rise.

    Don't pay any more than €350 all in for the full timing belt kit, water pump and new coolant.
