I'm looking to maybe get a tattoo around Christmas time. Haven't had one before and I'm thinking of something small to begin with. Football is my thing and I know I'll love the game forever so I'm thinking it's a safe topic to tattoo! :)

The only issue I find is it's hard to find a nice soccer tattoo for a female but I spotted a lovely volleyball one (down below) and I think it can be adapted to a soccer one.

I was thinking the logo below but obviously without the adidas word.

My question is, do you think people will guess what it is without the adidas logo? I would see a ball straight away but I'm not sure whether non-football heads would.

EDIT: Ok, I've 'shopped out the adidas logo and here it is without.

The artist will best advise you but maybe reverse that image or upside down and it might not be recognised as the adidas logo

First thing I'd see is a sliotar.

Crap! You're right. It's exactly like a sliotar!

This is far more recognisable and still very nice

I should go wild and go watercolour! :P

I'm sure there's a great black and white one in there that a good artist could pull out.

I'm thinking "out loud" here but I'm finding it really helpful.

I'm liking the reverse of the predominantly white that you'd usually have on a ball here

That could work well, you'd just need to widen the lines between the hexagons, as very fine gaps like that would most likely just blur together into a solid mass over time.

What about something like the ball from the Argentina 78 logo? Even inverted could look good. (Without the blue lines) I really like the subtlety of it, the six pentagons just suggesting the ball.

    Thanks Star Lord

I don't think it's as nice as the pentagons above your post though

I'm fancying this one from above to be honest

I think all of those suggested look great! Depending on the size or colouring, they'd all look good.

The thing is-you're getting it for yourself , so if nobody else guesses what it is, does it really matter?
Sure, you'll always meet someone who'll see your tattoo and wonder what it is/ what does it mean etc.. but once it signifies to you, your love of all things football-that's the main thing.

Where are you thinking of putting it and how big?

I've still been thinking about this loads. As you can see by the date of the thread that I've not jumped in to anything and am really taking my time to think about it.

I think I've figured out what I want. I love dark blues and purples and silhouettes and football!

I've been following David Cote for a while and this new Harry Potter tattoo displays the tone of colours I want

    12376249_10156414799385195_7028360668981487856_n.jpg?oh=d7404e69c32b63c3008113e8900d1149&oe=56DB3CEA

I was thinking a night sky with some stars and a big moon with a silhouetted girl holding a football in the moonlight or a person shooting at a goal in the silhouette.

Now to find the right artist to get this idea out on paper and in ink. Galway artists would be handy seeing as they would be close but I want to find one that is excellent with colour. Any recommendations?

Don't really know any artists out in Galway but Rob Mulligan in Colourworks in Dublin would be one of my first choices, doing some really good stuff with colours at the moment and sounds like something he would be into too. He's on colourworks facebook page and think he has his own too, rob mulligan tattoos.

I've heard Rob Mulligan's name mentioned time and time again. I've looked at his stuff and he looks really good. Thanks joey!

I know each artist has their own style so I'm wondering how I would approach an artist with a picture of another artist's work and say, "That's the style I'd like"?

    Hey MB,

Some of my mates at work have had a lot of tattoo work done by Joe Westcott at Inkfingers in Abbeygate St. I'd be very impressed with the level of detail he had done!! Would be worth calling in and having a chat with him in the shop.

My best friend actually has had some nice tattoos done by Sean in Inkfingers also. I hadn't heard of Joe so I'll go and check him out. Thanks ratracer!

Just show them, reference pics for what you want is normal, other tattoos included
