Seems to be a nationwide phenomenon. You just know someone will take it too far and there'll be war. Wholl give me odds itll be Joe Duffy material by Friday?

Some newspaper articles are up already. It's garnering attention all right.

I've seen that picture Walshy just there, fcukin' hell. That's crazy.

I'm one of two admins on the shiftin' page. We've been removing that ridin' picture all day, people have posted it up about 10 times. we're trying to keep the page all in good fun, if people report a photo, or ask us to remove it we will.

it's just a bit of fun, people putting up photos of friends etc to cause a little embarrassment and laughs.

People will act all serious and nonchalant but I doubt they'll be a "little embarrassed", it could be hugely hurtful to them. But hey, each to their own.

FYP :p Page has been closed, wanted to see what all the fuss was about and its gone

I know its supposed to be fun and all that - but some pictures are off people in the background etc, who wouldn't have realised that they were snapped, that could be quite hurt by it. Fair enough if two are doing it to be photographed, but not the ones taken without knowledge

well if they don't like em, they can tell us and we'll remove em.

p.s. we're working on getting it back... heard a rumour that the SU Disability Rights Officer reported us for a video we put up of Conor O'Malley the internet personality. thinking he was disabled or something and that we were making fun of him. we'll see when facebook gets back to us. all is not lost!

yeah, but the problem lies where people don't see them for a period of time, and then see them, damage is done, how many times has the page been closed down at this stage?

Personally, I think give it a couple of weeks, and the interest will die down tbh

    Meh, be grand.

And it's been closed down once. That is all. I see two new pages today, both of them are convinced that the other is set up by the same people who ran the old page and are at war with each other... funny.

It probably won't. There's a huge surge of interest, it's gone nationwide and now the media's getting its hands on it. I fear it'll become nearly as popular as the Overheard page.

Overall, it's thick and shouldn't be up.

    Anybody see this?
    http://booleweb.ucc.ie/index.php?pageID=158&newsID=138
    Leaving Certificate Student Study Programme
The Boole Library is running a pilot programme which will allow access for Leaving Certificate students to study facilities in the library from the 23rd May to the 24th June.

Opening times for the period are available on our website here.

Application forms and full details are available from the Information Desk Q floor Boole Library or online by clicking here.

    For contact details click here.

Numbers may be limited depending on demand.

Yes, it is a good idea but why couldn't wait until the exams were finished? Has this been done before?

Thats nuts to be done while there are still students studying for exams and any people there finishing off assignments etc! Though it will take huge pressure off the city library - I presume it would only be one area, such as one of the reading rooms or something

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭deisedude

Library is quietening down a good bit anyway, if they arent taking the mick i dont really see the problem

I'd say not - by the sounds of it they get a library access card, which would allow them to go anywhere.

It could be a good opportunity for the more academically inclined Leaving Certers to get time in the library, and motivate them to go to UCC. The selection of material in the Boole is so good.

But there is no material in the library that would be relevant to LC students studying - they will have their own books etc. I hope it will only be the more academically minded students going there, or I could see the end of such programme.

I was thinking of LCers who had academic interests outside the LC. For example, students into computer programming, or reading history. The Boole is a goldmine!

True, but I'd think that LCer's would be more focused on the study for their exams than anything else tbh, though I can see your point. It could be a distracting thing for some!! ;)

There's a lot of relevant science material in the newer textbooks they give really good overviews of all the basics a lot of which you do in secondary school, granted they may also get frightened by the other details.

Be good help them choose a course too,if they wanted too they could read relevant text books belonging to their desired course

History has an enormous amount on offer. If I was a serious 6th year student again, I'd be delighted with the number. Resources are incredibly deep.

I've to agree with rebelgirl. I'd say their own coursebooks are enough reading for them now!

Speaking from my own experience I dont tend to read much for leisure during college when i spend the whole day reading books and papers for my course. I'm a voracious reader when it comes to christmas or summer though. Each to their own i guess

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,812 ✭✭✭deisedude

Hows everyones summer going? Any plans?

I was extremely lucky to get myself a full time job in Galway and start next week. Will spend the rest of the summer going to Waterford games and a few gigs and not in the library hurrah!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

I am currently trying to find myself a full time job. In the very likely scenario I don't find one, I'll just have to sign on or something once I have my degree. :( Only other plans for the summer are finally learn to drive and try not to die of boredom....

Working for the next two weeks, then a week in Limerick volunteering at an international PE conference, followed by last minute preparations for Feile, which is the 30th, 1&2 July - I'll be involved in all three days and we've been at the preparation for the past couple of months!

After that I hope to pick up a few weeks work here and there, head away somewhere for a week or two depending on football results.
