I want to try lobster, where would be a good place in the city (the fair city!) to try it out?
    Any suggestion at all please?

If you can make it out to Howth pier it would be worth your while....

I was out in Beshoffs last week and they have loads of live lobsters in a big tank, guy said an "average" sized one would cost about €16 - which I think it quite reasonable seeing as they are €45+ in restaurants.

Thanks for the replies. I may check them out. Any recomendations on resturaunts towards the city centre though?
Beshoff's sounds good, but i'll have to see.

Try the Lord Edward Restaurant at Christchurch, if you want to try it. Be warned though, it's not exactly the price of a 1 & 1. I never knew that Beshoff's sold it...?

Roughly how much we talking about for 2 people in total?

Prices vary for it, I'm afraid. Give them a bell at 454-2420 (reservations normally required). With wine, at a guess @ €150 ish.

For two people you would normally be looking at the guts of 80-100 euro for lobster.
I had one over the summer in Rosses Point in Sligo and it cost me 40 euro.

Yeah - Beshoffs at Howth pier sell them alright - they have those Fish and Chip takeaway shops all over Dublin but their actual fishmongers shop is out at Howth pier. They stick almost every type of fish and have LOADS of lobsters in a tank out there.

Wrights of Howth which is just beside Beshoffs probably have them too.

    Worth the trip out!!

On my honeymoon, we had a meal in a fab restaurant in Gubbio in Italy. The menu was entirely in Italian and as we were having trouble with it we asked for some assistance from the Maitre d'. He was very helpful and recommended the "Big Prawns".

Our main course arrived and, to our shock, it consisted of an entire lobster each. Our 4-course meal - with wine - came to 180 Euro in total. Now that's what a meal should cost. But, of course, this is Ireland!

    Regards,

    Liam

Ouzo's in Ranelagh specialise in fish and shellfish at a reasonable price as they own their own fishing boat. Unfortunately the lobster is not always available, it all depends what they've caught that day, but eveything on the menu is lovely.
I highly recommend the crab and lobster claw salad, it's delicious!

you might want to have a practise run at eating lobster first, before trying to impress someone (i get the impression that you're taking someone out for a lovely meal) as not only can it be messy but tricky. not a meal for the uncoordinated.
