Ok, what is with the rest of europe, bar the mainland, using the "," instead of the "." in monetary terms? I nearly lost my balls buying a gift for a friend due to thinking I was getting a bargain but it turned out the bloody thing cost 180 squibs rather that 1.80 euros!

In Italy for example a nice plate, that you would be inclined to buy for your mother, if you were not an orphan or from a single parent family with male values, would be advertised as 11,00. Now that is €11.00 to Irish people.

Why or where does it come from?

    Are we doing it wrong?

I've heard they also speak a different language and have their steering wheels on the other side off the car.

Now my story begins in Nineteen-dickety-two. We had to say "dickety" because the Kaiser had stolen the wold "twenty". I chased that rascal to get it back, but gave up after dickety-six miles.

Yep - ebay for some countries on the continent for example show items as €180,00 instead of €180.00 (if you login to the country site not ebay.ie)

Its just wrong - its a decimal point not a decimal comma. Gits!

How could you possibly have interpreted that as 1.80?

Why are we different? Personally I fail to see how it is confusing.

That's how it is in some countries. Go out and travel the world a bit, you'll learn a few things. :condescendingsmiley:

It's not just European countries. The decimal comma separator is used in many countries worldwide - more than those that use the decimal point separator.

Maybe it was the fact that they use squibs instead of money that confused you?

That was my first thought. I thought it was well known that some European countries use a comma and not a decimal point.

The Europeans will slowly take over...

    miles are now km
pounds and ounces are now grams and kilograms

    soon,

    there will be no pints
you'll be driving on the left
    €1.80 will be €1,80

    watch this space....

500ml of Bier is better then a pint.

Driving on the left makes it easier for lefties.

    And it will become 1,80€

Also do you say Euro or Euros for multiples of €?
