Track meets not on my agenda but doing the Boyne 10k next weekend if you fancy another beating:)

Sorry man, I'm heading down to Limerick for a piss up pacing gig.

Just catching up on logs and cannot help myself.
Sub 60sec 400mtr is not that fast 904210 and Meno would probably be close to it now without any training based on some of his old 200mtr interval times.

Sub 3 hours, Sub 18, Sub 38 etc is not that fast either.

Anyway, I guess it’s time for the talking to end. Time will tell what he can run. A lot of people here contemplating his potential greatness. He has to go out and do the business.

So what do you think, would you have pushed harder if you'd had an eye on your time? Or if you'd gone harder early on would you have paid for it in the second half?

Dissapointing to not make it under 40 but I'm sure the weather and the slow start were the reason for those few seconds.
Well done, horrible night to be out running, much worse than the Raheny 5 miler I'd say.

If I had of known you were about I would have found you to say hi, but I only decided to actually the race last night at the last second. Needless to say I ran home almost right from the finish, on a miserable night :)

I dunno, I reckon If I had known I was 20 seconds to get under 40 i would have probably pushed the last few KM harder. Problem is I didn't see any KM markers for the whole race and my average pace would have indicated I'd break the 40 minutes anyway so I doubt it made much difference either way.

It was definitely a slow course last night looking at others people's results and comments on the event thread. My Raheny 5 mile time indicates I should have been under 39:30 at a minimum and I'd liek tot hink I have progressed a little since then...

Yeah, a clubmate was just over a minute slower last night than at the K Club

Even if you made sub 40, you could never vouch for it as it wasn't your name on the finishers so good ploy for just been over the 40 minutes.

Good time though on a dire night. Still a bit miffed i couldn't do it but such is life.

Got up nice and early and on LB's advice ( and CL's example) went out for an early morning strech. 1.4 miles @ 9.30 pace

Hmmm...I'm going to have to start charging for my nuggets of wisdom... Tell that LB coach that I'm patented... ;)

Mate of mine got a 1.29.30 half at a very similar time to yourself and is a very similar ability. He went out for a sub 40 last night and got 39.29 i think. Weather must not have been a huge problem although it was poxy out. Probably cost you the sub 40 but not a couple of mins id say.

The HRM is back working this week (as if by magic). So I am following LB's reccomendation of running all my runs at a constant (+- a few BPM) HR of max -50 (135 for me).

    Monday
6.75 Miles @ 9:08/mile (134 HR). Nice run with Aimman around Clondalkin and Corkagh Park. Legs felt like concrete.

    Tuesday
6.8 miles @8:52 pace (136). Another run with Aimman , this time in the more affluent surroundings of Terenure/Tymon park. We did 6 hill sprints at the end. Monsoon conditions. The only time I have ran in waorse was 2 days previous.

    Wednesday
7.3 miles @ 8:55 (135). Nice easy run home from work.

    Thursday
    AM
7.3 miles @9:10 pace back into work on empty (139). I couldn't keep the HR down on the last 1.5 miles up into the Dublin mountains without being late for work.

    PM
I had a 25 minute run scheduled so I decided to get in a little bit of pacing practise for sunday just to get a feel (pacing 1:40 at the limerick half).
3.3 miles @7:33/mile (HR 149). Once i got going I had to concentrate on keeping the pace down. Intereting to see I can get an extra 1:30/mile for just 14bpm compared to my easy runs this week.

    Friday
    4.6 miles @ 8:40 pace (135 HR) includign a few strides

    Saturday
    LeCheile 5k
I decided to enter this after talking to LB as I have yet to set a benchmark time, haveing been blighted in my last 3 races since Conn. So I played this low key and registered early in the week.
Funnily enough on arriving at Leixlip, I saw a good few other had done the same as I met Krusty, Woddle and others :pac:

Anyway I don't have much tie to write a big report as I have to head to limerick for pacing the 1:40 Half tomorrow.

I had a good race. The course was fair, a nice little tester of a hill after half a mile and a stiff wind in our faces for the second mile, so perhaps on a faster course I could have went about 10 seconds faster? But I am pleased with my result as I got the sub 19 I wanted for a long time and took a few scalps specifically a clubmate who normally beats me. I also hit a new Max HR of 187 which shows I put it all on the line.

    5k in 18:52 (6.03 pace- Av hr 177, max 187). Mile splits 5:54, 6:08, 6:08 and 5:52 for the last 0.12.

    Sunday
So after saturdays race, I only had time to get home, grab a bite to eat and as shower before heading down to Limerick with Aimman. We arrived at the expo and sat on the pacers stand for a few hours before meeting the other pacers at the meeting and going for a bit to eat. I had a fair few pints of guinness too :o.
I was originally down to pace 1:50, which would have been a nice little recovery run after yesterdays race, but with Brianderunner getting sick I had a greed to swap to 1:40. I was hoping Brian would swap back now that e is better but no such luck, I was to do 1:40 the day after a race even though his PB is 7 minutes faster than mine .
Anyway a little hungover and with stiff legs I met my pacing buddy Richie and we planned our tactics. I told him the mile markers were well out last year but the course was a bit long so we would plan to go a fair few seconds under goal pace (7:38/mile) and check the markers off the pace band after 7/8 miles. Brian had told us that last year he averaged 7:31 pace for a 1:39.30 finish.
We got off running and the congestion over the first half mile was horrible and we had to do some serious weaving with stop-start bursts. The first mile marker came about 200m late which panicked Richie a bit but I said to ignore it. After a few miles we finally got into a nice little rythm. We were running under 7:30 average but ti wasn't until 4 miles that it showed we were ahead of shedule after which we kept a buffer of 20-30 seconds on each marker. I really enjoyed the run after this and the pace seemed lovely and comfortable. We had a lovely little grup, most of which we sent on after 11 miles as we crested the final hill. We then hung back a bit and managed to coax a few stragglers to catch back up so overall we got about 20-30 people home.
Summary: 13.2 miles in 1:39:42 (pace 7:33). HR was a very high 159, which I don't understand as that's about marathon effort and it really didn't feel in any way hard. I was bobbing through the pacees shouting encouragment and geeing up the crowd. The High HR miust be down to the few pints and the race the day before...

Weekly total 7/7 days running 55.3 miles

Lots and lots of pints on Limerick on sunday night meant a Very tired and hungover meno on monday so I decided to take a rest day. The calfs were also very sore so I rolled them out a lot on moday evening.

    Tuesday
    Lunchtime: a ver handy 5.4 miles @ 8:55 pace (131)

    PM
Another recovery run of 2.7 miles. I picked up a pair of skechers go run at the limerick expo and decided to try them out this evening given that I only had a 25 minute recovery. They felt a little strange I must say. They are without doubt the most flexible shoe I have ever had with the softest cushioning. at 6.9 oz they are lighter than all my shoes bar the Lunar Racers. They have a huge buildup of cushioning on the midfoot with little on the toe or hell, so no matter where your foot strikes naturally you seem to lad midfoot first. I think I generally strike with the forefoot so it felt strange to lad in the midfoot and I had to adjust my stride. The shoes were definitely causing some discomfort in the calf and hamstrings so I was glad I was only doing 25 minutes. Will definitely try the shoes aagin but in a speedier session.

    Wednesday
Met up with Thirstywork2 for a nice little jaunt around the trails in Tymon Park. 5.9 miles @ 8:38 pace (137)

    Thursday
6 x 1k @ 5k pace (3:45- 3:50) with 90 seconds active recovery (50m walk, 150m jog). Did these on the track while the other lads were doing their own sessions. I was glad of the 90 second recoveries instead of LB's normal 1 minute. Reps were fine the last few tough enough. A little bit of a headcold coming on. 1ks in 3:45, 3:49, 3:47, 3:46, 3:47, 3:49
I find this kind of workout tough on the track (mentally) I'd find it easier in marlay park I thin even though the 1k loop there is bumpy.

    Total: 9.2 miles

    Friday
7.2 miles @ 8:30 pace (135). Nice little jaunt home from work.

    Saturday
A.M. 7.3 miles back into work. 9:17 pace HR 140. Felt a bit crap on this run. Feeling a little sick. Learned at work that I was realy dehydrated for the run. ;)

P.M. Met Woddle for a little jaunt arond Marlay.
    5.4 miles @ 9 min/mile. HR 140 (still elevated, learned when I got home I was still dehydrated :p).

    Sunday
    Kildare Half Marathon 1:45 pacer
Got a lift down with the elite athlete Claralara (top 10 finish today) and RQ. Met my pacing buddy Ross. We were treated like superstars, lovely big changing roons (in the jockeys dressing rooms) bright orange tops and introduced to all the crowds before the race. Met Rubyk who had a great race finishing about a minute ahead of us. We positioned ourselves about 3/4 way up the field but the first 800m was atrocious as we had to pass out walkers and very overweight 'joggers'. I made my feelings known to a few of them :pac:.
We were at 8:30 pace by half a mile and about 8 seconds down by the end of mile 1. The path in the curragh was narrow so we could not make up any time and the mile markers were going longer and longer than the garmins. After 2 miles we got onto an open road and my instinct was to kick on to make a bit of time back but this mile was the toughest mile (uphill and into the wind) so I was reluctant to burn the group. Luckily mile 4 was very fast (downhill, downwind) so we were able to put in a sneaky fast mile to pull back the time lost and were finallly a few seconds up, and could relax a bit. We were on country roads here and it seemed to be all downhill and we were sheltered from the wind, so we cruised along at 7:5x pace and were nicely up by about 40 seconds as we came into mile 9 at kildare. The pacees started to flag here so I beagn with my gentle encouragment. Mile 10 was again uphill into the town and a long narrow paths, but we had a good buffer so went nice and slow here to keep the group together, as we encouraged the pacees to push on if they were feeling good while giving pep talks to those who were flagging. I was taking mostly the front of the crew while ross was about 20m behind pepping up the strugglers.
At mile 11 we noticed we were now somehow almost a minute up so a wink to Ross and we spent the mile cruising while giving encouragement. We still ran mile 12 at 8 minutes so low behold you can imagine my surprise when we were at the 12th mile marker and only 5 seconds up. I pushed my pacees on and dropped back to let Ross know we had no time to dawdle now. I ran mile 13 in 7:48, luckily all downwind into the stadum and no-one was burned, got to 13 mile marker to see I was 50 seconds up again , frustrating to say the least, I should have spent the last mile running slower but how was i to know?
I ran the last 160m backwards encouraging the pacees to finish 13.19 miles in
1:44:22 (7.55 pace, Hr about 147ish) Job done, but it is so much easier to do these gigs when the markers are in the right place. Limerick was bad for this as well but at least the last 5-6 markers there were more or less in line with each other. There are a few other issues with the course- Water stations were poorly manned (1 or 2 volunteers per stations) so I only got a few sips on the way round- no problem for me but a lot of runners had to stop at the stations and grab their own water. The course was poorly marshalled in general (as evidenced by the 2 marathon leaders being sent the wrong way and losing to the 3rd placed runner), also We had to pass over 4 open cattle grids which is very dangerous especially if it had been wet.

Still I had a good day out and it has the potential to be a very fast course on a less windy day.

I was third for the first 3k, then that wind hit and got overtaken by some wagon from Donadea. Think 3 or 4 more passed me then between that and 7k, made up two wimmens places once we hit the road. One of them wasn't impressed when I glided by. :D

Should have brought my spikes for that and changed them for the last mile. Get that transition practice in!
