I keep receiving emails from people i don't know, there not 'fake' addresses as such-there Irish names!Anyway it annoying me, most of them have an attachment and the last one i got had a file titled 'incest' and had 'in your mind'? typed on the page!
I don't understand this....has some virus got onto my email and is then sending these obscene messages to other people or is it the other way round?
Kinda annoying me as im worried one of these viruses could get sent to someone i know or someone in my contacts book..,.perhaps someone could explain?

Yes, you are infected. You will need to remove the hard disk from your computer and wash it thoroughly in rubbing alcohol. You should also sandpaper down your CPU and RAM to make sure that any excess virus is stripped away before attempting to reinstall windows.

Think someone should rename this forum "Pix 'n' Mix (Photoshopping)", to inform those out of "the loop"?

    Social engineering
heard about something like this - can't remember if it's blackmail or virus - but the idea is to put the frighteners on the victim "we found this on your PC. - click here to view report we'll be sending on" etc.

Don't worry about it - I doubt you have a virus from the information provided.

Have a look at this info, and then come back here:
    http://www.spamprimer.com/
Getting Rid of "Spam" ...and Other E-mail Pests - by Randy Cassingham (A 'net Guru from way back)

Basically, as soon as you get on the net and are any ways active, your email address is out there for the spammers, and you start being sent these messages. Most of these messages are not the most salubrious, and it's something you have to put up with. Thank God I don't have kids, I don't know what I'd do.

As far as Viruses are concerned, have a peek at this, then come back here:
    http://www.tourbus.com/vp101.htm
TODAY'S TOURBUS TOPIC: Virus Prevention 101 - By Bob Rankin (Another 'net Guru from way back)
(This is really good info, BTW - I print both these sites out whenever I'm called out to friends and families PC's for the first time. It's "Sit down, read that, leave me alone to fix your PC!")

    The simple advice here is:

Get antivirus, keep it updated, and be wary of attachments.

Which program you choose is up to you, both McAfee and Nortons have their folllowers. Either will do. Both can be set to silently download and install new virus definitions while you are online.

BTW, I'd sign up for both these guys newsletters - I've been on the Tourbus since '95, and on ThisIsTrue, True Stella Awards and HeroicStories since inception. Tons of Very Good Info.
