Can't embed the comic but with all the games being talked I think this is especially apt at the moment.

Nar, as Placebo said it's just pen and paper. (with plenty of rubbed out pencils =) )

    dX(t) = -X(t)dt + dB(t)

Tell me farz, does this equation have stationary solutions or non-stationary solutions? Clearly, it's obvious.

But how do you turn that into a jpeg? Just scan it?

Is this just a more complicated version of the equations we did in school or this something completely different?

    What is a stationary/non-stationary solution?

EDIT : It appears to be a Stochastic differential equation and the stuff I'm reading is making my head hurt. I am more impressed by your PhD then ever before.

At a guess I'm going to say it has stationary solutions.

i did Quasi-stationary distribution, Yaglom limit in advanced Differentiation few years back, if i consider a 1d drifted Brownian motion on (0;1)

    dXt = dBtq(X t) dt ; X0 = x > 0

i could solve it but i might be mixing up integration etc, probably way off at this stage. rusty

Are you genuinely curious?! I was just proving a point to farz as he assumed i would know a lot about art/design when i don't.

As for the equation, it's a special class of Ornstein Uhlenbeck process, basically an extension of a differential equation which you might have seen before (differentiation). It's often used in mathematical finance.

I like how when I looked up
    "nerd image macro"

    I got this

I realised that but my great failing is to be curious about everything. I'm currently on a mathematics wikipedia splurge.

BE careful about that. You might end up thrown in a green bin by an old woman.

OT... (But then look at this thread)

Terry, is your PhD in pure mathematics/financial mathematics/something else?

If it's financial, do you know Joe Meaney in UCC? You would be peers.

It's financial mathematics but leaning more towards theory (pure) rather than applied.

Unless he plays street fighter he is not a peer of mine :D

    Awesome.

Now I have a character who's even MORE one-dimensional than Guile.

"My name is Yang. All you need is EX Mantis Slash".

Don't forget his dive kick and teleport mixups.

Yep, scanned in the XGC no less.
I had to tweak the contrast values in photoshop a bit on account of a dodgy scan is all.
