Nineteen of the EU’s digital Champions wrote an open letter to the leading contenders for President of the EU Commission

The Irish Digital Champion David Puttnam is not a signatory. He's not alone of course, but it would be good to hear if he was asked and ,if so, why he declined.
A competitive, dynamic economy operating at the leading edge of digital technologies is the only way forward – but it cannot sit on top of an outdated, under-invested digital infrastructure. Modest estimates put the price tag at up to €200 billion to meet the 2020 digital broadband targets. This investment in the very foundation of future growth and job creation can no longer be postponed. It needs to be a top priority for the incoming leadership of the European Commission, working in tandem with the member states and key stakeholders to produce a convincing time table with real deliverables and deadlines.

Needs must; he has a business to look after.

It seems to be a bespoke wireless link for the last mile.
The state-of-the-art connectivity allows for high speed uncontended internet access using BT fibre and BT managed radio network. This effectively extends the BT network into rural areas such as Skibbereen.

He's not the worst; he was encouraging the government to 'take a deep breath', and presumably leap, as far as broadband investment was concerned.
