Very scary situation that could occur again tomorrow as nothing has changed it seems. This tragic death should light the fuse to have the matter sorted once and for all even if it does take a Referendum.

I'd be absolutely petrified if I was a pregnant woman in Ireland at the moment ...

There are women safely having children in Ireland every day of the week and Ireland has one of the lowest child mortality rates in the world. Sensationalist scaremongering is seriously uncalled for here

Agreed ... it's very annoying to see both the so-called pro life women finding it all so very amusing. Good to see Vincent shutting that annoying mouthpeace up.

They don't have any immunity, they only care about the unborn. Madness.

Niamh Uí Bhriain, formerly Nic Mhathúna. Pro-life fundamentalist and daughter of the lovely Úna Bean Mhic Mhathúna -i.e. not worth listening to

And we all know how much concern that lady had for the born

I'd like to know why it's going to take 3 months for a report to enquire into the death of Savita Halappanavar? Until then, we're only going by conjecture. Maybe the Government will hope we'll have all forgotten about it by then?

Wouldn't it be good to see some of those right-wingers concern themselves with the already-born, not so much the unborn?

I don't agree with her socialist economic views but when it comes to social and health issues she's one of the most sensible politicians in the dail.

... oh yes I remember Matuna from her SPUC days ... delightful indeed ....

Substantial risk can never be defined. It's a question of degree. Regardless of the regulation/legislation the individual obstetrician will have to make the hard decision.

Same here. I think some of her economjc views are crazy, but she certainly earns my respect on this issue

One of the things you end up noticing about these ultra pro-life types is how little they care for women, pregnancy must be carried to term no matter what. And women can forget about choice or having control of their bodies, it's womens duty to obey god's commandment to go forth and multiply no matter the risks to their health or sanity.

Alan, if you don't want abortion then don't have one ;)

No she wants to give the woman the right to choose what to do with her own body. Seems pretty logical to me.

Did she at any stage say she wanted abortion on demand? Maybe you could supply evidence for your silly statement. If not.... well you know what to do

So its ok to terminate at say 24 weeks as in UK. This to me is pretty awful.

I will give you a case that happens in UK regularly. IN one ward doctors fighting to keep 6 month premature baby alive. In another ward same hospital 6 month baby been aborted.

    Now is that logical

One of the things you end up noticing about these ultra pro-life types is how little they care for women,

Or children (actual children, as opposed to foetuses). They're invariably the same types who attempted to defend (usually very sneakily, via obfuscation) the catholic church in the aftermath of the Ryan Report. Cretins.

The woman's right to choose is the issue. Not some emotively pointless example.

Thats a 'case'? Again, some evidence would be appreciated
