Two societies in the Waterford Institute of Technology have came together to run a charity event called Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal, which is run by the by the Samaritans Purse organization.

Operation Christmas child is a popular charity for people of all ages. It has been active for the last 20 years and is one of the largest Christmas shoebox appeals in both Ireland and the UK. It involves people taking on the special task of creating a present or presents for children in 3rd world countries, this year they will be delivering presents to Haiti following the devastation which has rocked their country.

The campaign is very easy to get involved in. All that has to be done is to gift wrap a shoebox and fill it with little gifts you think a child of a selected age would like, and then drop it off to either the Cork Road Campus or College St Campus drop off point, where they will then be collected and sent overseas to all the excited children for Christmas. For some children this will be one of the first gifts they will have ever received at Christmas.

This year the WIT Young Fine Gael and Early Childhood Studies Society are holding this heart-warming charity event in WIT for the first time, which runs up until the 18th of November. They are hoping that many people will get involved and make this a well known success in WIT which may become a great tradition in the college.

There are two drop off points in WIT:-

Christmas Tree outside Canteen, College St Campus
Christmas Tree outside AIB Bank, Atrium, Cork Road Campus

There are empty shoeboxes available at both locations for you to use.

    :)
Love making up the shoe-boxes every year. Not only do you make a child's day even year! But it gives an all round feel good factor to yourself.

Still running anyway. Didn't get the support from parts of the college which said they would, so that was a disappointment. Seems to be mostly people outside of the college dropping in boxes, not many students seem to care sadly!
