Why not improve the situation when one person reports it instead of leaving it months for multiple people to complain and ringing your customer service getting no where and getting engineers calling out to houses multiple times when the problem is congestion all along?

So in fact it will likely take much longer than four weeks. Eircom is a fantastic customer

This is the key point. All that time wasted calling support jumping through hoops over and over again when nothing is wrong with the line, or the modem, or the filters or anything except the exchange!!

Also a lot of people in my neighbourhood have complained about poor broadband but might not have rang support, they are suffering from these exchange problems but might think it's something at their end. Some people are not as savvy as others when it comes to IT. If someone complains about poor evening speeds, which is an issue that has a very specific pattern, it should not take 6 MONTHS!!!! to only start addressing it!

I also have zero confidence that the issue will be fully fixed.

Hi Guys, Lets get answers from the Reps.

    I'll start

    Before 6PM - 14MB on average
After 6PM - 1.2 MBPS on average - Terrible Pings
Weekend Speed - 1.2 MBPS on average Terrible Pings
    Local Exchange - Tramore
Length of problem - four months
Will this exchange be fixed in the 3/4 week time period or when will the problem be fixed??

  • Registered Users Posts: 670 ✭✭✭O'Prez

    Before 6PM - 10.5 MBPS on average
    After 6PM - 1.5 - 2.5 MBPS
    Weekend Speed - 1.0 - 2.5 MBPS
    Local Exchange - Roscrea

Just to p*ss off the latency-ridden Eircom users - Vodafone 4G in Dublin yesterday....

Thats why I moved from eircom to upc last year, no more fobbing you off and I actually get the full speeds I pay for all day everyday.

    Hi Guys

Apologies for delay in getting a response to the issues and posts here but we did have to gather a lot of data from your posts and to make sense of the issues reported.
Thanks to the information provided here and reports to our broadband tech team there is currently an upgrade plan underway to identify and resolve any issues that may be affecting NGB broadband services.
These improvements are expected to be fully delivered within the coming 3 – 4 weeks.
We will post more information to the forum once we have this.
We do appreciate your patience and hope that this investigation will resolve many of the cases reported here.
Again thanks for your feedback and information provided.

    Tony

Eircom engineer just called me, the problem is not with my line (which is perfect) but I already knew that. Told the guy I'd been through all the tests, checks, plugging out this and that etc.. He had basically run out of ideas himself, but tried the old "slow down your profile speed" trick. Told him VF tried that at least twice with me, and all it did was reduce my daytime speed but the evening speed was still awful.

He basically ended up by saying "there's nothing else I can do for you". That's that, just got to put up with it. He did admit, as another Eircom engineer who rang me a couple of weeks ago also did, that it is a congestion issue. So, even though I should have broadband with no congestion, that's just not the case.

He suggested fibre might fix the problem, I told him I've seen plenty of evening speed reports from fibre customers where the speed is down to 2Mbs or lower, so I don't think that will improve things.

So essentially I had a much better broadband package 3 years ago when my local exchange went NGB than I do today. There's progress for ya. 6 months I've been putting up with this abysmal service, and looks like I'm stuck with it.:mad::mad:

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of the promised improvements over the next 3 to 4 weeks. I hope the Trim exchange is on that list, Tony.

in exactly the same boat here in Trim,i have efibre ordered and will be installed wednesday morning,i will update with speeds and any issues.im praying for at least a stable speed in the evenings instead of 0.5 to 1.5mbs :o

Don't know if it is fixed for good, but my latency is better than it has ever been and I do get a maxed out speedtest.

Also latency to Germany has improved, they definitely did something.

This has been the same since September, SEPTEMBER. That's 6 months. Any traffic routed through decix nodes suffer the same spike in latency.

If you check the smart broadband forum, or other "independant" ISP's, they actually care about traceroutes and data like that, Eircom don't. An Eircom rep on the support forum here on boards rang my house phone threatening to ban me from the forum here and the Eircom.net support forum and began deleting my posts. :) We've been with Eircom since I was born, and have been a subscriber since they brought in their Modem internet service.

To your server. You can see the problem leaving Eircoms node in London onto the decix network. Exact same problem for me on my servers. Like I said, this has been ongoing since September

Not sure if it's been said before, but I'm on Vodafone FTTC and my pings to that server are in the mid 40s, so it's not a problem between Ireland and Germany as such.

    Hetzner.de is mid 50s

Big improvement since yesterday when my Vodafone support ticket was closed, something was definitely done to fix my problem. Anyone else on the Trim exchange notice anything?

Pings to Germany still bad here 150ms+

    Kilconnell exchange (KCL) update.

Broadband congestion still not fixed, contract is up with Eircom, considering moving to a wireless 6Mbps provider, it's more expensive, but at least it won't be affected by congestion (to this extent) and I wouldn't be giving any bit of money to Eircom, like if I went to Sky or Vodafone.

Latency to Germany still not fixed, probably won't be any time soon, best to use a vpn, I am using HE's free 6to4 tunnel service, tunnelbroker, which brings it down a bit.

Any developments on this folks? Have everyone's issues been resolved? A quiet thread usually means good news I guess!

Mine was sorted last month and I've since got fibre in, good speeds day and night at the moment anyway (fingers crossed it stays like that).

Is your issue evening only, Michael, or all day?

If all day, it could be a different fault. Have you got neighbours you can check with to see how their speeds are?

Evening, yeah, checked with two friends on the same exchange, 1 on Eircom, 1 on Vodafone, goes down to about 1mbps for all of us.

Not an NGB exchange which is part of the problem, Eircom said they were only fixing NGB exchanges, don't see why, we are all paying customers.

Mine still not fixed. Dring the day 15.3Mb, then evenings 7pm to midnight from 0 to 3Mb with jitter, high pings and packet loss. Reported it to Eircom. The chap in the helpdesk said it was a 'major line fault'. The local engineer said line 100% perfect and it 'was a problem in Dublin'. Still not resolved. Hope ESB will arrive soon to provide a better alternative. I am close to the exchange so ironically cannot get efibre when it arrives next month since not connected to a cabinet.

They just don't have the bandwidth and don't seem to be bothered about upgrading exchanges to NGB if they are not done already. Shame, but hopefully it will come.

You'll be able to get eFibre long before ESB I'd imagine. I'd be amazed if we say any sort of wide scale ESB rollout for 3-5 years.

Hi I just googled this problem and it got me to this thread I too have been having the same issues with broadband from Vodafone for last 12-16months
Severe bandwidth problems at night time anytime from between 5-11.
    Ping times 1000ms - 1400ms
bandwidth fluctuation from 3.5mb(at best) to 0.02mb
    Works perfect during the day.
Complained so much to Vodafone that they have released me from any contract
obligations should I want to go else where.
    Its painful
Again to reiterate for years it has been perfect but the last year has really taken the biscuit.
Have option to go wireless with local provider but reluctant due to price and not sure if that will work

This problem isn't going to be fixed until Eircom rolls out VDSL to your exchange(should happen before 2017), until then we are just stuck with it, I switched from Eircom to Vodafone because I was sick of it and I might as well get a less expensive bill if I'm going to deal with it.
What fixed wireless provider are you looking at? it can be a really great alternative and ping times will be less than ADSL.

    Anyway, until 2017:

Well switching between Vodafone and eircom won't solve my problem so I guess I stay with vodafone. Fastcom is local wireless provider in Sligo the reviews on fb and forums are very mixed some good and very good , some bad some very bad so you don't know what to do.
