    PI
What film beat PI last decade?
None I tell you. Blair Witch ph3r3s PI's genius combination of Qaballa and modern math in a great triller.

The Usual Suspects is the best film of the 90's without doubt. Pi was a bit too pretentiously w@nky for it's own good, if ya ask me (which you did smile.gif ).

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭_CreeD_

Hmmm...Sorry, "PI' falls into the Nice idea, well done, but not too enjoyable genre for me. (And Blair Witch?....interesting but laughable)

"Cube" for simplicity, originality and atmosphere.

i thought blair witch was brilliant.
then again, im with the 'leave your pretentons of being a film critic at the door and let the film entertain you' gang.

hmm, i'll have to think on that one. cant say anything stands out really.
matrix, seven, gross point blank, la confidentioal etc etc etc

Spot on. The Blair Witch Project is the only film to have freaked me out as much. I've often had a fright from a film where the bad guy jumps out from behind the sofa (or whatever), but the "freaked-out"ness of the Blair Witch was amazing.

I know it's not everyone's cuppa, but this is what I think smile.gif

    All the best,

Blair Witch was a load of over-hyped $hite - Yanks wouldnt know a scary film if it came up and bit them on the ar$e.

These are in no particular order (except for Indy + TLC
    NUMBER 1)

    The Lion King
    Die Hard (?90's?)
    Austin Powers
    Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
    Matrix
    Fight Club
    Forrest Gump
    Braveheart
    Usual Suspects
    Toy Story
    The Rock
    Four Weddings and a funeral
    A few good men
    Good will hunting
    Jurrasic Park
    Speed
    LA Confidential
    Terminater II
    Dances With Wolves
    Titanic
    Spice Girls: The Movie
    Shawshank Redemption
    Heat
Indiana Jones and the last Crusade (although a 1989 film, is one of the greatest/ if not the greatest film of all time)
The Naked Gun (1988 I think, but still a classic)

There's a red herring in there....see if you can spot it???

Forrest Gump is utter crap, Four Weddings & A Funeral omg that was bad - I just want to punch Hugh Grant's head in when he starts that 'stuttering upper class Englishman' $hite. Gump was one of the most offensive pieces of Amerocentric imperialistic crap in history. No the most.

Just seen LA Confidential yesterday and I thought I was bloody good.(One of the best of the 90's whitout a doubt)
La Haine was also very good.

The 6th Sense. Saw it for the second time and it was better watching it. Finding all the clues. They wrote and directed it well.

Nothing great about PI, a stolen idea. At first I thought it was going to be a remake of Umberto Ecos "Foucaults Pendulum". But like the Omega Code the movie really doesn't go anywhere at all.

12 Monkeys, Gattaga I'd throw in with the 6th sense.

Anything by the superb Peter Jackson. Master of special effects and black Humour :

    Bad Taste,
    Brain Dead,
    Heavenly creatures,
    The Frighteners.

All class films. I think Bad Taste was in the 80's though. Anyone seen it?

    1. Fifth element was woefully shallow. Even for Luc Besson!
    2. Blade runner is from like 20 years ago smile.gif
    3. The secret of my oh who cares!
    4. There was a Buffy The Vampire Slayer film before the series if ye did'nt know. Donald Sutherland was in it. That is how sh!t it was.
    5. Grosse point blank I agree with. Easily one of the smartest comedies of the nineties
    6. Sixth snese was good by how the fook did it get all those oscar nom's?
    7. Die hard was before the nineties but had it been in the nineties I would have voted for it smile.gif
    8. LA con = ****ing brilliant(definately is right)
9.I liked Delirious...when I was 5 and admired John Candy
    10. the last crusade I think was a nineties movie. Also very good. the others i believe were 80's.

And that ladies and gentlemen is my un-necessary and pretentious assessment of Wyverne's post on the best movies of the last decade...i'm gonna go strip wall paper.

as usual yis cant let other ppls opinions lie.
ok, so half of the movies mentioned werent made in the 90's
i mean blade runner? wake up and buy empire ffs! it bloody ancient.

and the red herring was jurassic park which was boring.
i didnt see titanic in there either which was a class film, or glengary glen ross which is another corker

  • Registered Users Posts: 842 ✭✭✭the celtic tiger

Oh contrare WWMan, I mentioned Titanic in a previous post and Jurassic Park is fantastic the first time you see it. It had it all, action, adventure, bad acting AND great special effects....similar to the matrix, no?

I hope to fuc|< you're joking about Austin Powers 2. It sucked a$$! It was just the same jokes rehashed from the first one! The first one was great, the second one was not. And I think that the last Crusade (best film ever) was in fact 1989....I'll check that now. Yes 1989.

reading the posts, it brought back memories of some of the movies that I had seen over the previous decade. I must say I thought American Beauty was excellent. But that came out here this year, so does it count?

I also thought the Matrix was very good - well where did you think I got the name?

    To Infinity and Beyond!
