    Hi all,

Is there any good eBooks or otherwise available for learning different types of programming languages. The books I would be looking for would be in creating dynamic website etc and could possibly include:

    AJAX
    Flex
    PHP
    ASP.Net/VB.net
Or indeed a good book on Open Source applications.
Or any other books in general that are recommended

As well as that are there any good tutorials on Flash and Photoshop or are there any good alternatives to these two. I have heard from friends that Paint.net is equivalent to Photoshop but would like your experts opinion.

I use Paint Shop Pro. Its not as good as photoshop but it does take photoshop plugins.

As for the books, really what you should do is pick a programming language and learn that, then expand from there. PHP or ASP.Net/VB.net would be good starting points.

Google PHP tutorial or Vb.Net tutorial and you should get loads.

If your looking for a free alternative for photoshop you can try GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) http://www.gimp.org/

As for a starter language... I'd probably recommend Java because it is easy/well documented and plenty of open source applications to allow you to get started at no cost.

Not technically programming, but if you are into 2D animations, there's a new (September 2007) book out by Todd Perkins called Flash CS3 Professional that comes with a useful instruction CD. Published by lynda.com.
