Eastwoods music and romantic films have been rather good.

Eastwood...

Sure the way this thread has gone, there are no credible directors left, they have all fallen from grace by the looks of things.

Neil Jordan - more miss than hit at this stage and his recent stuff is bad though no-one will say this in Ireland. Way overrated.

Plenty of Irish people find Jordan grossly over rated. He's directed some good films but he's also made some truly terrible films such as High Spirits and In Dreams, We're No Angels and the Brave One. When he's on form he can deliver the goods but much like Jim Sheridan a lot of his work feels like that of a director who would be more at home making Movies of the week.

Hal Ashby springs to mind. From Harold & Maude and Being There (one of my favourite films) to turgid pot-boilers by the mid-80s.

John Landis is another one, though I'd never have really rated him.

Wouldn't bank on him staying retired, tbh. Which is a shame.

Ah he's made some damn funny films though(and some not so good). I always thought he was better at writing dialogue rather than actually directing, the anti-george lucas if you will.

Well he is selling a book. But that said he will continue projects in other media and intends to distribute other directors work. Still another two movies of his to see before he retires.

true, he can write funny dialogue but cant shoot a movie to save his life, he's a better standup comedian than a director as well his evening with shows are really funny
