Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Brown trout lakes

    can i fish brown trout this time of year on lakes ?

    Nope. Think the season usually opens around the middle of feb sometime.

    If you were going to a stocked fishery (brown & rainbow) then I take it you could, where as an unmanaged lake/lough comes under the same rules as rivers.

    I maybe wrong...

    spot on there experimenter,,,stocked managed lakes are usually an all year affair,,but any lakes containing wild browns are closed until march

    It varies with each lake doesn't it? You should check what the season is for whatever lake you're thinking of fishing. E.g. Up here (Sligo) I know there are opening dates of Feb 15th, Mar 1st, Mar 15th and April 1st for various wild trout lakes in the area. You can find dates for some places on http://www.fishinginireland.info but you might need to check locally for most up to date info.

    lough ree is 1st of march too...mask is 15th of feb, think corrib is 15th of feb too, cant wait to get going!!!

    brown trout have open season same as salmon but if you fish rainbow trout lakes where they just put in an let go wild it is same craic althought i do no of two lakes in DL were people fish brown trout this time of year, and are said to hold a few artic char
