Malware on my laptop- does not let me download

Yesterday, I seemed to have downloaded a piece of software without my consent that has caused some problems with my PC, specifically my internet browsing experience.
I had initially used malware malbytes as my standard procedure and sybot- two techniques that have usually worked in the past but both have failed. I also have norton 360 do a run, and nothing was found.
The two main issues so far are these
1.- Random links to sites are generated from relevant google searches when clicked on.
2.- All my downloading capabilities have stopped. Whenever I click the save file option, the file automatically cancels itself and even if I do retry and it shows a download bar, the file automatically deletes itself in the respective directory.
This problem is not isolated to one browser on my system, but all of them which I have as backups- seamonkey,safari and opera.
Although the board suggest I download DDS, I cannot at this moment as I mentioned earlier- the file does not download and keeps canceling itself.

Ta da.Whatever you use as an Antivirus aint working.
Turn your computer on in Safe mode with Networking, to do this keep pressing F8 as soon as you turn it on and you will see the option for this, if the virus doesn't stop you, download, install and update these Malwarebytes, superantispyware and Microsoft security essientials (this is a real time antivirus so if your using another one delete it before you install this). These are free.
If the virus does stop you, use another computer and install on to yours with a USB stick.
Run FULL SCANS with the 3 of them while still in safe mode (will take time), that will sort it.+1 for Microsoft Security Essentials. Delete whatever your free trial was, you can't use two antivirus at the same time.
Don't use Internet Explorer if you still are, all it's good for is downloading a different browser.
Use Firefox with these 3 add-ons (click on Tools when you have Firefox running to install add-ons),
(1) Adblock Plus(subscribe to easylist) half the bad stuff you catch on the Internet comes from ads. Don't use it on your favourite sites, your cutting there funding.
(2) No Script
(3) Web Of Trust (WOT) blocks sites with bad ratings from loading.
For reading PDF documents use Foxit Reader instead of Adobes Reader(This is probably on your computer already, delete it, it's full of holes) do a custom install so you can untick all the stuff you don't want.
Install Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, and Comodo Firewall (don't install the antivirus that comes with it.) if comodo gives you trouble use PC Tools Firewall instead.
Don't use an Administrator account and update everything.
CCleaner is handy for keeping you computer tidy.
VLC media player for your songs and films. Super program.
This looks like alot but once installed thats it really.
OR install a different operating system and don't bother with anything, Ubuntu. Boards have a Forum for these here.
