Escape from New York on now

Anyone up for a Sunday afternoon matinee has a few decent choices today:

3:10 to Yuma is on BBC2 at 1:15PM today. (The 1957 original with Glenn Ford, not the 2007 remake with Russel Crowe). I haven't seen it, but it ought to be gritty in that Elmore Leonard way.

Volcano on E4, 3PM: yet another film in which the director gets to trash Los Angeles in an entertaining fashion. It helps to know a bit about the geography of LA, such as Wilshire Blvd. and the La Brea Tar Pits.

From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty. You want to grab a politician by the scruff of the neck and drag him a quarter of a million miles out and say, ‘Look at that, you son of a bitch’.

Wendy and Lucy, Film 4, Thursday at 22:40 (I think)

One of last years most underrated films! Definitely worth checking out - a small-scale but affecting tale of a girl and her dog.

    Saw this on IMDB
The two lead actors, Tom Murphy who plays Paul (the short one) and Mark O'Halloran who plays Adam (the tall one), were told by the local Garda ( Irish Police) to leave the set as the Garda thought they were real junkies looking to steal items from the set.

Just shows how good actors they are/were.

Apocalypto is on BBC2, 10pm Sunday. I haven't yet seen Mel Gibson's Mayan gore-fest, but I've heard good things about it.

There is a movie on Sci-Fi RIGHT NOW called Beauty and the Beast

It is firmly falling into the category of being so bad it's good. It's hilarious.

Oh and Estella Warren is in it ;)

If you like weird, tense thrillers, Breakdown is on TV3 at 22:30. Kurt Russell's wife is kidnapped in the middle of a trip through the desert ... no explanation, nothing - just gone.

Or, if you aren't already sick of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, their Sleepy Hollow adaptation is on E4, 23:15. (I quite like it, actually.)

Braveheart is on RTE Two at 9:15 ... never mind that tosh, wait until it ends at 12:25, so you can watch Woody Allen's finest, Annie Hall.
