Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Being sued by broadband provider

    Hi there,
    I was just wondering what the law is regarding this hypothetical situation ;) Basically if a tenant asked for broadband from an internet provider but when it arrived it turned out the phone line in the aprtment was faulty and would have to be ripped out and replaced.If the landlord was not willing to have the phone line ripped out is the tenant still eligible to pay for a years supply of broadband despite not signing any contract and if all communication was done over the phone.

    Sounds like an odd situation because it can't really happen like you've suggested.

    The Broadband provider/eircom whole have to supply a service to the main socket coming into the premises, after that if all other wiring is faulty then it's not the providers issue. Its upto the person in the flat to sort that out and ts none of the providers concern or issue.

    If its the case that the landlord extended sockets off the master socket or the tenant did so and they don't work then again its not the providers issue.

    Contract would still apply to the tenant regardless of if the they physically signed anything or not and they would be liable for any termination fee.
