I was very pleasantly surprised to read that this morning.
Thanks for posting the link.

Just started my study for criminal law - this is at a very cursory glance but doesn't this case have striking parallels with DPP v McLaughlin? As such why would the judge impose such a similar sentence.

So Lyons will be out soon and I assume free to go where he chooses? I take it he can go abroad and never return if he wanted?

I doubt the appeal will still be brought. The sentence is suspended so there might still be restrictions placed on him, I imagine.

Why does it take more than three months to lodge an apparently straight-forward appeal?

Should the DPP not be able to fast-track such appeals/skip the queue?

Is there an EU-wide Sex offenders register yet? Presumably as a registered sex offender Mr. Lyons will have to notify Garda of intentions to travel abroad? Are the Garda allowed notify other jurisdictions of the imminent arrival of a Sex Offender?

A few places like Portugal have no register at all.

The DPP had sought to have it heard before he comes out of prison but his choice of lawyer is unavailable.

Lyons is playing the system, and winning spectacularly. It makes me wonder if Lyons himself actually thinks that 6 months in jail is the right thing to do, when it's quite obvious that he'll have to look over his shoulder for the rest of his life with the amount of public resentment that exists towards himself and the perceived elitist protection that he enjoyed from his position of wealth.
