Here's some straws, would you like to clutch at them.

The tallies we have even up to now are a much bigger sample than any opinion poll taken to date.
Around 60% for the Yes side, not even close.

Seriously? clutching at straws? When I posted my comment, RTE were saying "It is still early days, and these first tallies need to be treated with considerable caution."

It's pretty funny, there seemed to be lots of brand new posters popping up just to rage about the treaty and vote no in the poll. Lots of multiple accounts and reregs too I bet. Why bother!? The boards poll isn't the real one

Oh, I was a genuine abstain in the real poll.

From RTE " Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins has said that the Yes tallies in certain areas seem to him to be resentful Yes votes, and he said this could spell trouble for the Government down the road."

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0601/fiscal-treaty-referendum-count-to-begin.html

How on Earth is he coming to this conclusion? I must not of seen the vote yes resentfully box on the ballot paper.

Don't question Joe Higgins, he's the man of da people and knows what we think better than we do.

A crushing defeat for the No side it looks like. Hardly surprising though.

Well, I guess you could argue that a large minority of yes voters are not supporters of the government (if it hits 55-60% and the support for government is significantly less than this).

Bad choice of words from Joe, though.

Postal Votes from Defences Forces, Diplomats, civil servants posted abroad, etc:
1036 Ciaran Mullooly: Postal votes from Kildare suggest 80/20 Yes vote - Majority of these votes would apparently be members of Defence Forces.

Joe Higgins, talking about major tools. Pot, Kettle, Black? :P
1042 Joe Higgins has said this has been one of the most shameful campaigns, with fear as a major tool of the Government.

He said the right questions were not asked. He said no-one asked why we would actually need the funds from the European Stability Mechanism.

I voted for Joe Higgins in the European elections a few years back bit this is more than a little rich. The ULA spent much of the campaign raising such issues as the household charge, water rates and other issues unrelated to the treaty. Neither side covered themselves with glory during this campaign.

Does Joe not know we need to borrow funds to pay for all his unionised buddies?

Can't wait to see the smug face on Enda  "The people have spoken and have given a strong mandate for Europe and confidence to the jobs market for inward investments from large multinationals blah blah blah"

In other news, 300 jobs loses today followed by Phil Hogan bellowing some shi*te about septic tank charges and property tax and perhaps a new joint initiative by Burton & Bruton for halfing the minimum wage so more people can be employed whilst no mention of getting rid of their own cronies taking advantage of rent supplements etc, same ol' same ol'.

Who can afford the ESM exactly? Do you not realise there's F'ing no actual way this country can afford another ''bail-out''?

Correct and right, the Entitlement merchants and welfare freeloaders that have no appreciation of the deluxe social floor that is under them. Only know to moan and are never happy.

You do know that sometimes governments borrow money when they have other money or bonds paid back?

Do you think it would make sense to borrow at lets say 7% or 8% or higher when we will now have access to the ESM at much lower rates and so actually save the country and the taxpayer some money.

the majority of jobs that are being announced for the country are for computing, that won't solve the unemployment in ireland

there are plenty of computing based jobs at the minute yet no one to fill them

Yeah, borrowing €20.5 billion to pay for social welfare payments at cheaper interest rates because the bond markets still want to charge too much interest...

    Ok so really quick question

IF the Euro tanks and breaks up will this treaty still be in effect or is it a from now on no matter what happens we are gonna have this?

That is due to 1 in 5 people being involved in an unsustainable construction sector before that sector crashed and burned.

People should now be getting an education for where the jobs are, it was not in construction.

I have no doubt we will be voting on Eurobonds in a years time anyway, this is just a step on that road. I fairness passing this treaty gives the Germans less excuses not to go with Eurobonds and collectivized debt.

Is interesting to see that the areas that voted YES ..are the same people who owe out their bollöx on mortgages etc and who overspent during the boom. Is obvious enough that they will need more money to keep it going. Hope the ESM fund actually materialises for them!!

Also obvious that no one wants the default and devalue PUNT option. As we all know having a wheelbarrow of useless money is not the solution either.
