€50 for 2 weeks is the cheapest airport parking you will get in Ireland FYI! We used the regular car park before (€44 odd a week) for a 2 and a half week holiday, we got a nice bill in excess of €100 on return to the Airport!

€50 for 2 weeks, you'll spend more than that on 1 meal on holiday I'm sure, for peace of mind I'd just park up.

What kind of €50 steaks would you be buying?
I agree with Clareman, its worth the Piece of mind.

Thank you to all! I was thinking the same. I'm not really into steaks but might try it if nice. ;-)

I spent more than €50 on 1 steak last week :D it was Scandinavia though.

€50, 5 minute walk from the airport, on the road straight away and peace of mind that your car will still be there.

No way would I park in the industrial estate folks, I work in the area and we have seen more than one broken window this month never mind how many over the years, it looks safe but evenings and weekends its deserted! I get a lift to the airport and taxi home and if I had to id park €50 is quite cheap for peace of mind.

    Fiddy bucks? Go for it!
What the others said. It makes sense.
I used to park there in the times before any alternative parking, at least nowadays we have the choice.

All the Airlines for Shannon have their winter schedules in place. Very little change from last year.

    Changes:

*Ryanair 1x weekly service to Tenerife-South goes year-round at the expense of Fuerteventura. (FUE will stay summer seasonal) Probably a good decision as I'd imagine their would be a larger market for a Tenerife route.

*Paris-Beauvais goes from 3x weekly to 2x weekly. Rumours of bad loads on that route.

*Aer Lingus will operate their new resumed Birmingham service through the entire winter at 6x weekly. Although it was 12x weekly from NOV-JAN last year, albeit on an aircraft just over half the size.

Overall its an unimpressive winter schedule with less flights than last year (loss of BRS and EDI).

Hopefully a good announcement to come regarding a Scottish route before the summers out.

Cork airport could be passed out as Ireland's second busiest
    (Irish Examiner)

Sorry to the cork crowd, but this is rather exciting to think about. Its further off than this article suggests, but if the airports keep continuing the way they are then this will happen in a few years. Neil Pakley is expecting the growth percentage for 2015 to be in the single figures (see below article)

    (Irish Examiner)

Interesting read above, Shannon needs the investment.

Arrivals Baggage Hall revamp. Untouched since the 70's!

Tonight's FUE-SNN flight operated by EI-ENW diverted to Faro due to an unspecified technical fault. EI-DPL has just departed FAO with callsign RYR134 so looks to be operating the remainder of the flight perhaps?

Thank god for the baggages hall revamp, I find it depressing when you step off a flight from Spain into this years old bag area.

Also it helps give good first impressions to tourists etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,776 ✭✭✭Jhcx

what are they actually doing in the baggage hall. they have whole section fenced off

    Yep it will include passengers.

Shannon Airport will replace Cork Airport as Ireland's 2nd Busiest Airport this year.

Shannon Airport will replace Cork Airport as Ireland's 2nd Busiest Airport this year.

Very Very unlikely, there was a gap of around 600,000 passengers between the two last year, that won't be filled unless there's some sort of extreme loss at Cork or extreme and immediate gain at Shannon

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,465 ✭✭✭highlydebased

The gap is closing though, SNN should just about reach 1.8m if a bit less and Cork will be lucky to hit 2m

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,106 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

I'd say Shannon will eventually overtake Cork, but in my opinion it won't be for around 5 years. With elections looming in cork there will be a temporary fix to the problem there which may result in a little growth there.

Maby but the fact is Cork is not going to gain any growth for a long time now it seems with yet more reduced services. Shannon will continue to grow as it has a 5 year growth plan to 2.5 million so Shannon will overtake Cork pretty soon.

Its very very unlikely that Cork with gain any new growth for a long time I am afraid. Shannon on the other hand will continue to grow each year. Shannon will eventually reach high figures it reached a few years ago.

The Shannon growth plan may not come to play, with growth of no more than 160,000 this year, it will be hard to continue it. In my opinion it will be a few years.

Cork will get growth in 2016, their existing routes will stay and gain popularity with maybe an extra route or two. It will be minimal, but even the airport is expecting growth.

Shannon, will never reach its 3.7 mil peak for a long time. Ryanair will not get the same massive deal it got previously carrying over 2mil pax so it would be unlikely to get that numbers again.

If we ever manage to get 3mil, that's a great sustainable number with small growth possibilities over a number of years.

Ryanair plans to add more routes at Shannon in Sept and this will add to the growth of the airport. Shannon will eventually get up 2 million again and it has a support group now on its feet. It will reach its 3.7 million peak eventually but yes I agree for not for few years but eventually it will fingers crossed as its not impossible.

I have read the articles. Unless an announcement is made soon, there's no new routes until September.

I don't ever think it will reach 3.7 million, it had a lot of T/A, terrible Ryanair deals and a lot of U.S army back then.

One of your point have made me think. That Friends of Shannon Airport I'd established now, is anyone here a member? Has the group done anything, what are their aims?

Thats your opinion. I do however believe Shannon will one day reach 3.7 million again in a few years. Plus The new routes will be announced in Sept not before it. Shannon will definitely get up to 2 million with in the next year or 2.

Explain to me where the passengers will come from? With the new M7 to Dublin, no Transatlantic stops and far less U.S military, there's very little else to get the passengers from. The airport itself said they never expect to reach 3.7mil.

According to this article from the Clare Herald,

Routes will be launched in 2015, in September namely. If they are announced in September, they won't launch until 2016, Ryanair doesnt launch routes with such short notice. Where did you get that new information from? Have you been talking to your "friend" Michael O'Leary?

Shannon will hit 1.8million or slightly below this year, so 2 million may be possible in 2016 or 2017 providing things go well.

Being a little to hopeful, they reached that number at the height of the boom and Ryanair have at least 4 (think it was 6 based if i remember correctly). I can see them keeping around 1.9-2.1 million long term.

Well hopefully it happens but it may not, the problem is besides a few UK gaps where will FR go and make money at the same time, they have most of the bucket and spades covered. I guess maybe S France and Italy may give them one or two but at very low freq. I don't think SNN will see increased based fleet anytime soon either.

Renamed Transaero bought out of examinership in €2.5m deal (Irish Times)

Former Siteserv executive Patrick Jordan has bought aircraft maintenance specialist Atlantic Aviation Group out of High Court protection in a €2.5 million deal.

The business, formerly known as Transaero, had been in examinership since January after its Russian parent ran into difficulties, but emerged from the process this week after the High Court approved a rescue deal put together by Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton.

Mr Jordan is taking over the company in a transaction understood to be valued at €2.5 million. Under its terms he is paying €1 million for the business and putting up €1.5 million in working capital.

Mr Jordan has no previous background in aviation.

Atlantic Aviation is based at Shannon Airport and employs 220 people, whose jobs will be secured as a result of the sale.

    ************************************************************

I hope he learns the aviation business fast.

If a persons optimism directly affected Airport growth, Shannon would be triple the size of Dublin. We have a great crowd and support behind Shannon and that's great, but we also need to be realistic with our selves.

Activist detained after trying to search plane

A well known peace activist was detained at Shannon Airport early today after he attempted to reach and search a US military plane.

Former Irish Army commandant Dr Edward Horgan was boarding an Aer Lingus flight to London when he saw four United States Air Force C-130 Hercules transport planes parked on a taxiway.

At around 8.15am, Dr Horgan broke away from other passengers who were boarding the same flight and he attempted to cross a live ramp and aircraft taxiing area to reach the planes.

He was stopped by an airport worker and escorted to the terminal building where he was met by airport police officers and gardaí.

Following his released, Dr Horgan said: “I have no doubt there were weapons on board these planes and it’s very unusual to see four of the craft at the airport at one time.”

A Shannon Airport spokesman said: “Shannon Airport can confirm that a man was detained after diverting from the Heathrow aircraft he was due to board.”

“A member of airport staff swiftly apprehended the man as he strayed from the designated approach to the aircraft steps. He was handed over to An Garda Síochána. The flight departed on schedule,” the spokesman added.

So does that mean Transaero is no longer in business in Ireland?
