    This Road

    The days are getting longer
And the nights are just as cold
    No longer a young girl
And her dreams are still on hold

He said he needs her there
    To hold through the night
He seemed to need it less
    When he saw morning light

    Time will teach us lessons
Some hit too close to home
    The one she learned tonight
Has her driving down this road

She leaves him in the city
But this road don't lead home
    She knows he'll understand
    What he was never told

    Time will teach us lessons
Some hit too close to home
    The one she learned tonight
Has her driving down this road

Her dreams no longer on hold....

decent, if you just played a really droning G - Cadd9 progression right the way through. clean up the chorus, and it would be ok

should there be more variation in line length?

Messed around with this on guitar during my lunchbreak. Enjoyed the lyrics and found playing a variation of C, G, Am, and F it worked for me.

Would love to hear how the OP intends it, though. Any recording?

Edit: Changed it to C#m, E, F#m, and A, and it changed it a lot, actually.
