I recently found out that one of the drills in the Yugoslav army during the Cold War was for the event of a nuclear strike.
I was surprised to find out that the side of the strike was specified, ie. Nuke on the left! and the drill was to don respirator and dive to the right. Or dive to the right and don respirator.

Would it really have made any difference in a nuclear strike to dive away from it?
Or was it just army drilling psychology?
