Need Aluminium box welded - not able to get quotes

    Hi everybody,

I'm looking for a box that holds some batteries, with a weight of about 32kg.
    Inside measurements are 137mm x 350mm (actual box only to 303)x 466mm.

The box will be hanging from 2 M10 bolts in the 350x137 sides, so i guess they should be thicker to handle the weight - mind they are mounted on a motorbike.

So far I have contacted 2 fabricators, one of them (McGuirk Steelworks) had over a week for what I would suppose is a very simple project for them. No quote from them at all, even after 2 calls and 4 emails.
I don't mind if they do not do small work and only cater for businesses - but they didn't say so (I spoke to Patrick McGuirk, Managing Director - he sent me an initial email after I sent the details above).

So I need your help to find a metal fabricator in Dublin (inside M50 preferred) that can cut and weld a simple box.

You could build it like this with no welding :

use rivets instead of bolts ?

That's cool stuff, but I don't have the space for the angled parts to spare.
I have pictures, but can't post links yet :(.

search for "RF400e endless" if you want to see my project - same name

Try an Airsoft Shop for an army surplus bullet storage box, they come in several different sizes and are reasonable priced too. I had one on my bike a few years ago to carry the lock and chain and tools. Got in in Bray. Try Army Bargains in Capel street first maybe...

Thanks, that will be helpful for some other projects, but I need this one to specification, only millimeters to spare.

Thanks mate, contacted them as well.

Had to call in after submitting the details through the online form. Nice chap, promised a quote this morning and delivered:
    280€ +VAT = 350€...
No details as to the split material vs. labour.

Got a good quote for the parts from Impact Ireland (Metals) Ltd:

    alum sheet – 6082T6

    5mm: 137*350 2x – 12 euro each

    5mm: 476*137 1x – 16 euro each
    3mm: 476*308 1x - 20 euro each

    3mm: 476*50 2x – 9 euro each

    All from stock Cork

DPD cost for direct delivery 15 euro

    Prices exludes VAT,

As alu welding is usually 40€/h (e.g. Bert from Motoengineering, who texted me back while on holidays) the 350 above are a little bit overpriced (even if all 5mm), as I don't think those 8 seams of a box will take 4 hours.

So I ordered the above and i'm now looking for a welder :)

You could do it the other way round and reduce the number of seams

when you get the welder and make a little metal folding yokie :

    or buy one

Why not try and make it yourself with angle alloy inside and rivet it?
Easy and cheap compared to what you have been quoted.
