Are you tackling them within a certain time limit, or over several different weekends?

Good solid map reading and compass skills, as most of the routes you may find yourself on will need careful map reading in cloudy/misty conditions; especially descending from the summits.

Good footwear - worth investing in a decent pair of hiking boots and socks. You'll regret it otherwise!

If you're tackling it all within a weekend then being extremely organised, having loads of spare gear, staying as dry, hydrated and blister free as possible.

Thanks for that Nathan, we thinking of doing one per weekend over a 1-2 month period, map reading & compass skills no problem, we were wondering, are these the 4 highest peaks in Ireland or are the 4 peaks comprised of an amalgamation of the highest peak in each of the 4 provences?

The Four Peaks generally refers to the highest mountain in each Cúige: Lunaquilla in Leinster, Carrauntouhil in Munster, Mweelrea in Connacht, and Slieve Donard in Ulster. The four actaul highest peaks are all in the Macgillycuddy's Reeks: Carrauntouhil, Beenkeeragh, Caher and Knockpeasta. You could do all four whilst you're bagging Carrauntouhill. In fact, the top ten are all in Kerry, and all but Mount Brandon are in the Reeks.
