Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Can someone clarify whether or not Gardai are public or civil servants please?

    Civil Servants of the Civil Service are civil servants.

    Anyone else wholly or mostly employed by the state are public servants. Gardai, Defence Forces, HSE, Local Authorities, schools and colleges etc. The Civil Servants run the bodies that oversee all the other public bodies. Dept of Justice, Dept of Education. Revenue is also defined as civil service.

    Gardaí are therefore public servants.

    correct, civil servants are employed under the civil service regulation acts, gardai are employed under the garda acts.
