How to check if my bootloader is locked?

    Hey all,
    I was wondering if the only way to check if the bootloader is locked would be to try to root it? I ask as I've a Huawei Y300-100 and have sent my details to Huawei twice, both times ensuring all the info is correct, but both times getting an email back saying that they "can’t find the corresponding unlock code". Thus I'm wondering if they don't have the unlock code because my bootloader is not locked, and would I do any damage attempting to root the device if the bootloader was in fact still locked?
