Just to bring you up to speed Sav. Everyone fit & raring to go in Tipp. There will be another open training session on Thursday next. The team will be the same as what started against Cork. Like I say, beating Cork in that historic meeting in croke park was mega for us, anything else will be a bonus.

Foreign tourists are amazed when they see the medieval buildings of Kilkenny City - a must visit location, a compact mini-city, and ideal for walking tours by visitors.

There are contributors to this thread who have an in-depth knowledge of the whole Kilkenny hurling scene from juvenile to senior both at club and inter-county level. One of these is pmy.murphy and I for one always look forward to his posts. You know when you read what he has to say that it is coming from that knowledge base making it so much more informative. I hope he keeps posting and does not let a few gombeens take away not just the enjoyment he gets from posting but the enjoyment those of us who are not fortunate enoughto be able to attend the local scene get from reading his posts.
This week is far too important to let a supposed Tipp supporter win, so C'mon Kilkenny, we did them before and we will do them again.

I agree entirely. Best to just ignore certain posters.

Off to the training later. Obviously we'll learn nothing with regards to likely starting 15 etc but I for one am happy with that. What we will look out for is any injured players, none hopefully!

Is there a demand for tickets? Or are Tipp/KK getting sick of each other ? ;)

Did not see much demand at the club distribution at the weekend. Mind you the tickets were for the worst locations in the stadium. Never understand why the send such tickets to the competing counties. There was never a shortage of tickets for tipp KK matches that I could see.

I don't know if there are any good songs about this year, here is one I penned (to the tune of The Galway Races or the Ruby Walsh song). I won't be going over this year unfortunately and getting a bit homesick this week!

    Here goes

Well now there's Thomastown there's Hugginstown, there's Muckalee and Clara!
There's Killenaule, there's Mullinahone, Roscrea and Toomevara!
There's people here from everywhere, from Comer and Moycarkey!
They've all come here to drink the beer and bring back home McCarthy.

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go!

You could here the rose of Mooncoin or Tipp lads playing concertina.
The hills were small around killenaule now we're on the road to Nenagh.
There's young and old there's blue and gold among the black and amber.
They've come to see the hurling giants on the seventh of September!

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go!

Brian Cody's on the wireless, he's talking up Tipperary.
He says it will be a savage match and things they could get hairy.
They say the cats play on the edge but Cody's not for turning.
This is strictly not come dancing, we're in to manly hurling.

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go.

The pundits on the Sunday game are in a feeding frenzy.
They're throwing shapes, reviewing tapes, Mulcahys green with envy.
It seems their aim to make their name by causing controversy.
They wouldn't hold a candle to Michael o Muirheartaigh.

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go!

So who will be the hero when these legends meet again?
Will Kelly win his third one or will Henry make it ten?
Or will it be Richie hogan or the roving Larry Corbett?
If Tommy scores the winning point it will send us in to orbit!

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go!

So if you're sick and tired of politics, of ice buckets and Nama
Just mosey down to croke park and immerse yourself in the drama
If you're ass has died, if you're unemployed or your wife is looking scary
The time has come lets get it on Kilkenny and Tipperary

Tipperary and the cats up for the match and here we go!

bad tickets are often circulating first. That was the situation in Clare last yr. Good seats then popped up around Thursday and Friday.

As a neutral I'm really looking forward to Sunday. Hopefully have a ticket picked up by Sat.
All Irl final weekend is the best weekend of the year for me

That's fantastic.. Personally speaking if "Tommy scores the winning point" it'll probably send me home crying ;-) but otherwise it's an excellently written piece.

    Cannot wait till Sunday..

The Thunder and Lightening final, this day 75 years ago, very nice piece in the examiner about that day..

Anyone make the training last night? Presume it was just a puck around.

Nearer I get to the final the more I begin to worry about where our scores are going to come for, besides Colin and TJ it feels like we haven't opened up. Although Richie Hogan is the in form midfielder it would be something else if he tried Mick Fennelly midfield with Richie Hogan at full forward. I think he will name Richie midfield regardless but I wouldn't be suprised if he switched early to target Barry. The only thing is where would Richie Power play as he is best suited to a central position in my opinion. Maybe it would be robbing Peter to pay Paul but I feel it might give us an extra edge.

Worried that if Tipp backs hurl well we won't score the goals, a big performance from forwards outside TJ and Colin will give us a great chance.

I don't remember such a nervous energy before an All Ireland in a long time, Kilkenny people seem almost afraid to talk about it. There seems to be a feeling that Tipperary owe us one, lets hope we perform on the day. Tickets seem to be appearing slowly but surely as they do, once people get their tickets maybe the hype will start but very low key up to now

Tipp HB Line is the strongest line they have. FB line is inexperienced and untested IMO.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Walter getting the nod to try to nullify P Mahers effectiveness in the HB line (he did a job on Tannion - when he was taken off Tannion ran riot).

Also wouldn't be surprised to see Richie Power getting the nod. If Henry comes on I imagine he will be sent straight in on the FB for ten or fifteen with a lot of one on one ball being created.

Limerick game will really stand to KK.

That being said if Tipp won by 5 or 6 points I wouldn't be surprised either.....

Graeeat tickets got (via season ticket section 305) and only counting down the days until the game now.

I would like to see us target the full back be it barry (or p maher) warly as thats clearly a weak spot for tipp that was not nearly exposed enough by cork.

Rumour has it that walter walsh played corner forward on the training weekend team in carton house but im sure we'll hear plenty mote rumours before throw in time sunday

You presumed correct. Lasted about 30 mins.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,473 ✭✭✭longshotvalue

Getting a sneaky feeling there may be a couple of surprises with the team.

Id think Henry will start, he has plenty to give at his age and as far as i can see he is a fit as ever. Cody's style is to go for everything from the start and tipp will have heads down fast if we start well..

I think P Walsh has to start but given tips team and bonner mahers influence i wouldn't be that surprised to see him in a new position, i'm not sure about that but it may make sense given the opposition..

Could be waffling on but there is always something of a surprise in selection.

    My side for Sunday:

D Herrity (If Murphy is unfit)

    P Murphy / JJ Delaney / J Tyrrell
    J Holden / B Hogan / C Buckley
    R Hogan / C Fogarty
    TJ Reid / M Fennelly / C Fennelly
    A Fogarty / R Power / E Larkin

I wouldn't change either the defense or midfield. They've done the job so far, and it would be stupid to change a winning base.

Any changes to the side I think will happen up front. I would keep Colin in the HF line for the first bit of the game and use his pace and work-rate to get at Tipp. Mick Fennelly plowed through Pauric Maher in last years league final before Maher had to be taken off of him, I think his fitness will be back to his best so he should go well from there and will be very difficult to stop when he gets going forward. TJ Reid has the beating of Pauric Maher in the air as he has done before, so I'd start him there. I think the FF line there would be the hardest working FF line we could pick, and would certainly cause Tipp big problems as they are all varying types of player.

No room for Tommy or Henry, I just don't see anything they've done this year to warrant taking on the best of opponents in a high intensity AI final.
