If you are looking for tunes, go to
    www.woodenflute.com

The tune database link is really good - and you can play the tunes slowly to hear what they really sound like. may have to download free software.

I know that i have often come across tunes that i liked on cds but they are always in awkward keys or too fast.

I found a piece of freeware software that is amazing!

Its called BestPractice and it allows you to change the tempo and pitch of an mp3 file or a track from a cd.

Heres the link to the site:
    Best Practice

Hopefully you'll be able to learn all the tunes you hear from now on!

download some"music notation" freeware from download.com
drop any midi file onto the desktop icon
    the tune will majically appear
then slow it right down and off you go
also windows media player has a tempo feature that slows down music and keeps it in tune

Listening to the Folk Radio UK for the last three weeks and really liked it so I thought I include the link here:

    Folk Radio

It has two streams: a Celtic and British Folk stream and a Frukie (Folk/Roots/Alternative) stream. Personally I am only listening to the Celtic one but I am sure there's something for everyone there.

EDIT: There's a mini playlist accessible on the right side of the main homepage. Very useful for info on who is playing at the moment and what has been played before.

    From Na Píobairí Uilleann:
The IMCO (Irish Music Collections Online) facility was launched by Terry Moylan at the Breathnach Commemoration on Saturday 5th December.

It consists of modern interactive settings of tune and airs from music collections dating back to the early 18th century. Users can see the tune onscreen in staff notation, cna make it play, and can change the speed, key and pitch of the playback.

This new feature of our site is at www.pipers.ie/IMCO

    From Comhaltas:
Just wanted to announce that the first bunch of content from the Comhaltas Traditional Music Archive is now online at
    http://ComhaltasArchive.ie
You are all most welcome, of course, but please be a bit nice to me if there are any bugs with this first release! I'd be delighted if you'd email me with any you come across, at archive@comhaltas.ie.
The core of what's up there now comes from the open-reel tapes recorded by Séamus MacMathúna (the other one), mostly in the 70s and 80s, but includes a number of tapes that were donated to us by various good folks over the years.
In January I'll be putting up the audio from all of the Comhaltas-issued LPs and cassettes, and there's lots more to come.
The archive site is designed to encourage comments and participation -- once you've created an account, you can leave comments on any of the items there, and also suggest people, tunes or other keywords that ought to be included - just like here!
I'm afraid that for copyright and other reasons I've had to interrupt the audio files every 30 seconds with a brief noise --
I hope that you'll understand that we're trying to honour the agreements we have with musicians. For new material that we're gathering, we're doing our best to get permission such that new tracks go up without interruption.
All completely free, of course -- this is meant to be a resource for the ITM community globally. Comments welcome.
So, here I go holding my breath ....

I checked out this trad band called 'Gravel Walk' in FitzSimmons in Temple Bar, Dublin after the parade. It was a 4 piece with a girl doing vocals and fiddle, a fella on acoustic guitar, a fella on an electric bass guitar and a fella on a Bodhrán. I'd say they were in their mid 20's and great to see young people into the trad scene.
They were brilliant and the foreign tourists were loving it as was myself.
They mixed it up with traditional Irish music and contemporary stuff like Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson, the raw talent out there in Dublin would put the hairs up on the back of your neck.
