Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Should i do Journalism or Biotechnology or Arts? I don't think I can get the first two but Arts seems like a bit of a nothing degree with little employability. Do ye think biotech will keep on increasing? It was 465 in 2013. I'm deciding whether or not to drop to pass maths and I'm completely confused. Thanks for any help..

    THere is a huge difference in the options you have mentioned. I work in the Biotech industry and can tell you that there are plenty of job opportunities in that industry.

    I employ biotech engineers / scientists and we cant get enough.

    My son followed his heart and did arts but then had to do a masters conversion course in electronic business in order to get a job.

    I cant comment on journalism.

    Do what YOU want to do. I went into my degree because I thought it'd have good employability and decent money. I hate what I do, I've little chance of a job and I'm looking at following my original desire just to be employed.

    CAO gives you whatever you have ranked highest and have the points for. There's no choosing after you get results. Put whatever you want to do first, if you think you'll get the points or not.

    Im an unemployed scientist, wanna hire me? :D ( forward i know, but you don't get anywhere if you don't try!)

    As for the OP, listen to the others, put down as you're first choice what you want to do and work your behind off to get the points! If you get it in the end you will be delighted

    Put what you want to do first and if you think you will enjoy the career path out of it.
    I'm in first arts(2nd time I college) and eventually want to be a journalist and from experience of writing online/in papers and talking to people working in media arts is certainly not a nothing degree and "employability" is fine. If you are interested In journalism get out and read as much as you can, practice writing stories etc. Be as up to date as possible on as many areas as possible and aim to specialise in some area's(be it sports journalism-specific sports and all sports-, fashion journalism, current affairs etc)

    I'm just like you, my course choices are ridiculously varied and the order keeps changing. I wish someone would just force me to do something because I just constantly analyze the pros and cons of all the courses and can never make up my mind.
