Everyday shoes that aren't runners or flats

I'm getting pretty browned off wearing my warm runners / trainers to work [I work in a casual office].

I'd really like a pair of cool shoes that I could wear everyday. I don't like ballet flats as there isn't much warmth to them and I'm not looking for granny shoes either!

I have boots, with a little heal, but they're not ideal for walking to / from the Luas etc. Anyone any suggestions for something funky for Winter-time?

I bought these and think they are great for everyday wear.

I wear brogues that I from from Clark's. They look cute with dresses and jeans. If you're in a more formal environment they would look nice with flared tweed trousers.

I have these in an oxblood colour http://www.clarks.co.uk/p/20350649

The pictures are great! I meant to post that earlier: images would work best.

I have a pair of boots similar to those @StenchBlossom. They're nice but not practical for walking to / from public transport every day.

I really like those @Twee. They're pretty. Are they warm? Comfortable? I have a pair of wedges from Clark's and they really are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes. I'm so glad I spent the money on them.

I bought these in black, but I am getting them in brown too. They are so comfortable and make my legs looks quite long and skinny. Win, win!!

Soo comfy! They've got a spongey sole inside, slightly elevated under your heel and the ball of your foot. I work in retail so am on my feet all day, and I have a knee problem so can't wear completely flat shoes. I can wear these all day without any issues :)

I have a couple of pairs of shoes similar to this and agree that they are very comfortable and flattering! I find wedges much better than heels if I have any walking to do.

I like the look of these. The sole looks like it's a comfortable height. I'll try them on during the week and will report back.

    Thanks Guys!

Could you not wear runners walking to and from the Luas and then pop your shoes on when you get to your work place??
On another note, there are lots of nice flat shoes at the moment. Have you tried flat brogues?

Got these over Xmas, a little more sturdy than average ballet pumps

I was just thinking this. Also, the shoes Stench Blossoms posted look perfectly fine for a bit of walking to me, I find Cuban heels extremely comfortable. I've a pair with very similar heels that I always wear on match-days when i'd generally be walking from Donnybrook to Ballsbridge and back.

I work in a casual office as well and I just wear my converse alot, although they may be similar to your runner.

I can walk around all day in them without any discomfort. They are very comfortable because the heel is quite chunky.

I really don't like that runners with your work clothes look - even if it is walking to / from transport to work. I'd rather walk in what I'm going to be wearing in work... and I'd rather not have to carry a pair of shoes in a bag with me to work. If I left a pair of shoes to change into in the office those particular pair might not suit what I've decided to wear to work that day!!

I like the brogues idea but not sure if they'd suit me.

Ooh, no, sorry, not my cup of tea at all. I'd say they're comfortable though.

I have a pair of these. I've worn them for about a year with no issues when it comes to walking in them. Recently though I've found them rubbing on my heal too much and so, I put the call out for something without a heal.

I can always resort to them if I don't find anything else.

What about something like those pumps with thicker sole and fur on the inside.

Not interested in Ballet Flats at all. They're not a great winter shoe in my opinion.

Normally I agree but those actually have ticker sole and some fluffy material on the inside (unlike English footwear Italians actually make seasonal shoes). Anyway it doesn't matter but I would search continental brands, they tend to be warmer. You are a bit late because summer stock is comming in.

They don't hold up against the rain though as they're not covered over. I hate wet feet :p

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,624 ✭✭✭✭meeeeh

Point taken, I'm never overly bothered by that. Besides I usually wear high heals.

Just a thought OP, I'd check Arnotts and brands like Geox or Gabor if you need something that still works with a suit. I don't know what clothes you wear to work so it is hard to make suggestions.

Work wear is pretty casual (media industry). I like flat boots and funky footwear. I wear heals whenever I go out.

Ballet flats are, well, too flat - not much by way of a support for the bridge of your foot. Also, where's the coverage when you're slopping through puddles in the wet??! I couldn't be dealing with them.

Brogues are swinging it by a mile.

For rain are these absolutely brilliant. I have the model with higher heel. They are very versatile shoe but they are not to everyone's taste.

Oh my God, I am loving these. They're unusual / funky, fully covered for warmth and come in different heal heights - perfect!

Wow, thanks a million for this link. I'll definitely be getting a pair. Are they comfortable? They look like they are.

They are for me but be warned that I wear a lot of high heels so I'm not sure if I'm the right person to ask. I think they have them or at least used to have them in Arnotts and I also saw them in a shop in Galway (cellar of Eyre Square shopping centre) last year and you could try them on somewhere.

I like the brogues idea too, ballerina flats are just crap in the rain :(
