The river in Athenry has trout and salmon (very few) but it is closed for salmon fishing. Its a very small river that dries up in places in summertime so not really worth fishing. The Athenry club has some fishing on the Clare River at Cregmore (trout and salmon), call into Cheevers shop around the start of the season to ask about membership/permits.

The Clarin River that flows through Athenry past the castle. Its open for trout fishing but its a very small river and the fish are small. Its not open until March in any case. Your best bet for decent fishing nearby is the Clare River.
