Retro fit Cruise Control to an 2011 VW Passat Comfortline.

    Hi reader,
    Just wondering if anyone has any good experience of doing this job? I have the car from new, and I really miss the CC, with so many silly urban speed limits changing every few hundred yards...

    I saw one firm on-line, but they appear to recently have gone out of business. I'm based in the North Wicklow/South Dublin region, but can travel to get the job done professionally if the price is right!

    Sinnotts in Wicklow did mine, matched the price as well from a specialist. Also a 2011 comfort line. The new Passat is far from straightforward so I felt comfortable n the hands of a main dealer. Service was excellent.

    Fit replacement column switch assembly, add one additional wire, activate cruise option in steering controller and engine ECU. Not exactly rocket science, even for a main dealer ;-)

    Is it the same on the new model as the old model?

    I waited over a year to get the official VW Cruise Control system retro fitted to a 2011 Passat 2.0Tdi Highline.

    Customer mistakenly ordered it without Cruise (thinking it was standard, but never checked). Checked after delivery and the system was available, but when we tried ordering it, I was told it was held up in testing by VW AG as they'd had issues with the first few that had been done.

    Eventually became available again earlier this year, but apparently the control stalk will have the rear window wiper on it - not a problem for us as it went on to a wagon.

    The info I got from the dealer may not have been 100% correct, but I do tend to believe him as he know's it's not worth bullsh**ing me about it.

    The info is incorrect the older model was done this way but not the current one..
    Cartronics in santry or ice In Ranelagh can both retrofit properly but it ain't cheap!

    Apologies if the info I gave above is incorrect although it is difficult to see how the basic procedure could differ a whole lot from what I posted above; i.e. fit the hardware, run any additional wires as required and then activate the system. I have done the retrofit on 2005-2010 Passats but not on a 2011 model. I assumed it would be the same as the newer model is just a facelift of the previous model but it seems it must be different.

    OP, if you PM me the chassis number of your car I will look into it. I would be interested to know the details of the retrofit for future reference in any case.

    The one we had done was by Sheehy's in Naas, so they have experience of it on the new model. Worth calling in to your local dealer and ask them about it.

    Sheehy's did it for us at the cost of the factory option, due to the amount of time we waited. Not sure what the actual cost should be.

    OP, even the reg number should be sufficient if you don't have the chassis number handy.

    I asked VW about this yesterday while ordering other bits and apparently there are kits available, priced at €204 + VAT. There are 2 different kits, which may just be for saloon vs estate.

    Also if you have lane assist retrofitting cruise is not possible. One or the other I'm afraid.
