Apologies, on the linking mistake, that's me being lazy.
Despite the link on the facebook page, my previous post is fact.

The UCD branch head is not, as far as I'm aware, a member of the SWP.

I don't see what diffrence it makes anyway, I know the Socialist Party often complain about the SWP being all over everything and instead of helping the cause, trying to take it over, but I dont see what diffrence it makes if memberships intersect, they are bound to.
My only beef with the IAWM has been their tendency to only protest US-Led or US-Supported wars, I didn't hear a peep out of them when that tosser in Gerogia started shooting at the Russians and there was a disgraceful lack of objective reporting even in the likes of the BBC.

On the main topic if you log into the noveli client on the desktop there is a "UCD TODAY" link:

    Maidens 7 pm Monday

Maidens semi finals tonight around 7 in two theaters in the arts block. Motion is "This house would assassinate the dictators of rogue states" I guess I'd only recommend those who have an interest attend, but should be good.

British National Party Debate 7pm Tuesday

BNP debate for the lawsoc McDermot cup on Tuesday in arts. "The BNP deserve a platform", probably some of the most talented debaters from UCD debating over the coveted annually awarded trophy.

Ardal O Hanlon (Fr Dougle) L&H event 7pm Tuesday

Ardal O Hanlon from fr ted comes in to talk about his life with the Literary and Historical society, clashing appropriately with the BNP debate which I am speaking at... Yay.

    Capitalism v Communism L&H 7pm Wednesday

For anyone not bored of politics at this stage come to the capitalism v communism debate, basically also works as East v West, Developed v Developing, Good v Evil and Irish v English. Should be good.

Sensation white Pre-Party Dandelion town circa 11:30

I think most of us have had enough of putting on a jumpsuit and getting sprayed with paint while electro blasts in the middle of a IMA A CHARGIN MY LAZOR show, but if you're not then €8 for tickets from Lawsoc, which is a r really good price, college societies all over Dublin are selling, so all this bess burds will probably be there.

Final week for L&H and Lawsoc events so I am going to smash through them one last time.

    Maidens Final Wednesday 7pm

The final of L&H and Lawsoc's James Joyce Maidens competition will take place on Wednesday in the arts block. The final 10 contestants narrowed down from something like 80 will debate the motion "This house prefers castration to incarceration for sex offenders". I'm shamelessly self promoting because I am in it, so anyone who goes along it's Chris Lee for victory...

Bill Bailey James Joyce Award / Honorary Life Membership Thursday 7pm

Bill Bailey will be awarded these two prestigious awards by both the Lawsoc and the L&H on Thursday. Obviously he'll be doing some stand up, some stuff with music and all the standard Bill Bailey banter. Sadly (IMO) he's in Theater L and not O Reilly hall, so no tickets on sale, just queue at the door. Good luck.

If this was organized by the same people last semester they ought to be ashamed of themselves for being a debating society.
I was there expecting an interesting discussion in light of the clear and plain failures of capitalism since 2008, and it was diabolical ...really really diabolical.

The guests were Kiearan Allen and some guy from the Small and Medium Enterprises association. These were the only two people in the room who had even the slightest idea what they were talking about.
It would have been better to limit the debate to the two of them and leave the CV padding career whores from L&H out of it.

Many of the student "debaters" lacked even basic knowledge of economics or political theory, and because there was no commonly agreed definition beforehand of capitalism or socialism, these students began referring to European social democracys lke France as examples of socialism, and wikipedia as an example of capitalism!! Seriously guys, if your gonna debate in opposition to something, do some research on it first! Even the pro-socialism ones, with one exception were dire.

Also the small and medium business guy, why have him as a guest? When socialists are talking about nationalizing key industry or worker ownership and control they are not really talking about Mrs Raffertys local grocery shop! It would have been more appropriate to have someone from Citibank or Goldman Sachs at the debate, they are the real targets of any self respecting socialist.

UCD Anti-War Movement are having a public talk on Monday 16th in room 317 in the Engineering Building at 13.30. The guest speaker, Sameh A Habeeb, is a journalist from Gaza and will be talking about the current situation in there. There's also going to be a few others talking about Afghanistan, Iraq and militarization in Ireland and the EU.

All are welcome to come along!

In fairness the point about Wiki was that it was socialist, and that wasn't raised by a debater, it came in the Q&A at the end from the floor.

    But maidens on Wednesday.

Yes the point was that it was an open, non profit and free at the point of use tool that was hugely successful, in contrast to the profit making and poor quality Encarta, when the point was made someone shot back that it was an example of capitalism, and I beleive it was a debater, sounding exasperated as if it was so obvious.
If the debate had started with commonly accepted definitions of capitalism and socialism that kind of stupidity would have been avoided.

My coupla focail is just coupla focail, and thats only cause coupla is just couple which is actually English, so my couple of words is just the word words, but if couple doesn't count then coupla is removed from the sentence so the sentence is just focail, so my focail is just focail and everything makes sense again.

But seeing as how the VP is such a VIP, shouldn't we keep the PC on the QT, because if it links to the VC and he ends up MIA, we could all be put on KP.
