Hi all. I'm looking for a recommendation for where to get a decent pair of flats. I work in a pretty casual office - jeans and flats are ok but i wouldn't wear leggings/jeggings or long/slouchy tops. I walk to work which is about 10 mins away. At the moment I wear flats from new look/penneys but if the ground is wet the rain comes through them so i'm looking for a better pair. I'm in Galway and would rather buy in store so i can see they're comfortable. Brown or black, nothing too expensive. Thanks!!

Very sturdy. I normally just go for new look and penneys and found these alot better. Not too plain either. Think they were €22.

Clarkes are good for sensible work flats. They are also padded on the inside so they are a bit more comfortable for walking

I get flats every year from Clarks. They are so comfortable which for me is really important. They had lovely ballet style ones this summer and they may have a new stock of winter style at the moment.

Ecco are amazingly comfortable but expensive, worth checking out their sales.

As flats are so, well, flat I'd recommend buying a REALLY good pair with soft cushion-ing (although why people wear these is beyond me, it's like stomping in bare feet on concrete - ouch!)

I'd recommend Clarks... you need to look after your feet and it's one area where I don't mind spending a bit of money. Also, if you're walking to work in the Winter then you'll need a good quality pair. New Look / Pennys / Dunnes isn't going to cut it.

I'm not a great fan of Clark's and find them a bit boring, of the big brands Geox or Ecco would be more to my taste. As some here, I find it's best to spend some more money for a decent pair. I actually rather buy less shoes but insist on buying leather or suede. I'd check independent shops that sell Italian or Spanish shoes.

Thanks a million for all the recommendations. I was in town yesterday and had a look in a few shoe shops that were open but didn't find. Am going to have a proper look another day. I figure logues might be the best place to find these brands and they were closed yesterday. Maybe debenhams too. If i can't find any in store i might try to get them online instead, i'm just worried they might be uncomfortable/dig in if i dont try them on first.

Clarks are good for flats. I have bought a brand call Gabor which are lovely and comfortable and smart enough for work. I think they are normally around €89.
I buy mine in my local shoe shop so you may need to google them for stockists.
