A €20 SATA dock is one of the best purchases I ever made...

Arn't PS3 hdd's contents encrypted & paired on a console basis? Afaik there's no way a pc or another PS3 will be able to decrypt another PS3's hdd.

There may be a way to do it with cfw that I read ages ago...I'll have a look see can I find it

Edit - here it is, I think you would have needed to do this before the ylod though. & It involves Linux on the PS3 so prob not the easiest of solutions. Now you'll need someone else running cfw/linux on their ps3 to retrieve your stuff for you

Bah. Nothing is ever easy is it?

I still love my SATA dock though...

Okay... I think it's an evening for my cardigan... once I have that bad boy on I'm going to drink a gigantic bottle of Innis and Gunn IPA and finally start on Skyward Sword.

I can't check now cos I'm in my phone but if you go on eBay and check completed listings that'll give you an idea if what they're selling for. I'd definitely be interested in them though!

I just posted elsewhere bemoaning the few that read the excellent but defunct games mag Maximum only to do a spot of Googling, as one does, and found this!
Now everyone can bask in the gaminggoodness therein!

Maximum Games Magazine 95 to 96

That was a great magazine produced by hardcore gamers. The level of detail they went through in reviews was astounding, evening playing games all the way through to get screenshots of the final levels.

The caption under a pic of a Metal Slug shotgun blast turing one of the enemies to a cloud of blood - "GET SOME!"
I was a massive fan of Maximum, can you tell us a bit about that magazine, and why it folded after such a short time?

Now this is a LONG story. So here goes. The bottom line is, it was a cool mag, but it was ultimately a waste of time, more appreciated now than it was while it was being published. The initial pages we produced were amazing and we should have used those to pitch for the official PlayStation licence. Instead, Gary Harrod and I were obsessed with producing the ultimate multiformat magazine, borne out of the fact that at that time, C+VG was absolutely hopeless, its sales in the toilet. Our aim was to produce something different – we reasoned that most people only bought two or three games per month, so we would concentrate on the best titles that month on each format, but produce mammoth, collectable features in a super-deluxe package

6 and a half hours in and I've finished the first dungeon in Zelda.

Enjoying it a lot.... but the motion controls are no where near as good as they think they are... maybe I just hate motion controls... just keep wishing I just play it with a regular controller.

Skulltula's are a pain the hole to fight as you have to angle your sword just right to tip them over to get at their belly.

Ooh, the new zelda 3DS looks lovely. I was holding out for a Pokémon one, but I was thinking I'll just pick the zelda one up and then if a Pokémon one comes out then go for a jap one of those!

It looks lovely alright! I think if I didn't have a 3DS at this point though I'd just wait for the redesign.

Any of you guys playing Marioland 3DS or Shinobi 3D at the moment? I think I'll pick up Mario Monday. Shinobi will probably come down in price. Mario never will.

I want to get MarioLand 3D but since jesus day is approaching fundage is at a premium so I'll have to wait until I get some spends:(
Shinobi looks a good game and is being well received as far as I can tell.

I see some shops stocking more titles than others for 3DS does Smyths havev exclusives for the console as thats the way it seems cos they have the new F1 game amongdt others that escape my mind right now.

I have a feeling that we'll see a 3DS:XL before too long, if ever there was a console screaming for a larger screen the 3DS is it, and they can pop a second circle pad on there as well!

The main design flaw of the current 3DS that grinds my gears the most is the place where the stylus goes, it is stupidly hard to get out and impossible to find if you open the console before taking it out:(
Also the lack of a second analogue blows!

Ridge Racer on the Vita is supposedly poor, only 3 tracks and 5 cars.
Some think it's a demo mistaken for the full version.
Others, worryingly, think it may be deliberately hamstrug so DLC can add the rest of the game, at a price.
It'll cost 33 quid instead of 55, so frak that anyway, I'll stick to the superb PSP and 3DS versions for portable powersliding thrills.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 15,183 Mod ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

That is actually ridiculous. It must be a demo! Or else it's not fully finished and they'll release the rest as a free download.

Well, while you lot are hunting in your purses for change for Marioland 3d bear in mind you'll need to do it again for Mario Kart 7 in a couple of weeks!

I never realized there was so many Shinobi games in the franchise.

Can anyone give a quick rundown of what the games between Revenge of Shinobi for the Mega Drive, and Shiobi for the PS2, were like?

There really aren't that many at all. Between The Revenge of Shinobi and Shinobi on the PS2, all you really have is Shinobi III on the Megadrive and Shinobi X on the Saturn.

III is fantastic and almost as good as The Revenge. Still haven't played X yet.

12 hours in and 2 dungeons down in Skyward Sword now... I'm still finding the combat a little frustrating though... I mean... can't I just press A to throw a bomb... do I really have to swing the controller? Speed of swing doesn't even effect the throwing arc anyway...

But the dungeons are very well designed and pretty damn tricky... have gotten stuck a good few times... Certainly is a great feeling you finally work stuff out though.

Yeah, I'm impressed with Skyward in every way except the controls, despite the ubiquitous nature of the all round glowing reviews the controls let everything down, taking a gorgeous game and making you have to relearn all the rules of playing a Zelda game.
Simultaneously they tried to implement a controller in such a way that instead of fulfilling the Wii-mote remit, which is to make interaction seamless and intuitive, gave you a control method that has you checking the controller mapping every so often for the manifold actions that require different gestures and button press combinations.
It didn't have to be this way, Metroid 3 managed a superb Wii-mote control scheme for its game.

Just back from London. Was delighted to get a few goes on the distressingly quiet Darius Burst cab. A fine game indeed. Shame the rest of the cave games are let down by lackluster monitors, especially Death Smiles. Casino is generally worth a visit though.

Also saw Emma Watson on my lengthy walk to find the place. I cannot guarantee similar results.

Still the best feature of any Zelda game is the name customisation:

I'm a big fan of Shinobi and Shadow Dancer in the Arcades. Also Shinobi X on the saturn despite the poor digitised visuals is really damn good. Even better are the god awful zero budget cinematics that look like they were filmed in the Sega HQ office building.

I'm also a big fan of the two Game Gear Shinobi games. The megadrive Shadow Dancer is actually completely different to the arcade game and worth a go.

Avoid Cyber Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi on the GBA like the plague.

Shinobi and Nightshade on the PS2 got mauled by critics but they have their fans. A few people at HG101 absolutely adore those games but be warned, they are extremely tough, much tougher than Ninja Gaiden.
