Process for bring NI car to ROI

I've just moved to the ROI after living in NI for 6 months & England for another 6 months. I bought a UK car 12 months back and want to be sure that i'm exempt VRT? If so, how painful is the process to getting ROI plates and how much does the process cost? Thanks,

Cheers Biko - i'm struggling with the revenue speak and couldn't really get myhead around getting a simple exempt/not-exempt and if exempt how to do it:-)
