Im looking to buy a dog(that sounds so horrible)
but of course i find every single dog adorable(yes Im one of those) Im looking for a small dog with a good temprement or however you spell it. But i cant get a jack russell or scottie as they tend to yelp alot and that would bode well with mammy and daddy booboo.
Has anyone ever bought a pup from done deal or is it a safe bet?

Donedeal and similar sites are full of dodgy breeders, stay well clear! Some people get very lucky and find a good breeder on these sites, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

What you need to do is research breeds, find one you like and then do more research! Small dogs are all different and personality is very important when looking for your first dog. If you settle on a breed you think would suit you, contact the IKC breed secretary and they will give you a list of breed club members. Many will not have a litter, good breeders tend to only have a few litters per year and they usually go very fast, so you may have to go on a waiting list. Make sure the breeder carries out health checks, by specialists - not by a standard vet, for the breed (eg. MRIs, ECGs, hip scoring etc.) and they will only be too happy to show you proof of these tests. The puppies should also be vet checked (by a standard vet), microchipped, IKC registered, wormed and vaccinated. If the breeder does not health test their breeding dogs, walk away.

On another note - rescuing could be the best option for you. There are loads dogs and puppies in rescues around the country - some pure breed, some mixed breed, in all shapes and sizes - looking for good homes. They will be assessed before going to their new home so you will have a very good idea of the personality and temperament before you bring it home. Also, the pup/dog will come vaccinated, wormed, vet checked etc. (and if old enough - neutered!). You are also taking a dog that would otherwise not have a home and potentially be put to sleep, and you are supporting a really good cause. Rescues are packed with wonderful dogs, that make wonderful pets, so definitely look into it - you will be surprised at what you will find!

Good sites to start the rescue hunt are:

    www.dogstrust.ie

OP not all jack russells/small terriers yelp a lot. It all depends on the way you bring them up, teach them manners etc. I have a 2 year old JRT in foster with me at the minute and she is honestly the sweetest, nicest temperment of a dog. So dont write off a breed fully because of that misconception.

Please dont buy a dog off donedeal..have a read of this thread it tells you everything to avoid puppy farmers. Large majority of pups for sale on donedeal are farmed dogs.

I cant recommend breeders to you as I havent a clue of any but if you decide to rescue I could help with that. Where are you based OP?

thanks guys for your help. I suppose youre right, i think my experience of jack russells wasnt that good. the amoun of times ive seen my neighbours dog run under the wheel of cars, but that is more to do with how he was treated.
My friend suggest rescue dogs actually and that sounds more in line with what i would like to do. Im based in cork.

thanks for the heads up on done deal:eek: last thing i was want to a dodgy breeder. it makes me angry when people only do it out of greed:mad:

You don't need to 'buy' a dog when so many are in need of a good home for free. Sounds like the parents are not convinced a new doggie is a good idea? Think hard about it, you def need some support caring for a dog and if the parents are not behind you then you will find it difficult.

As has been already said, steer well clear of donedeal. PRETTY PLEASE!

    Good luck.
