Last years 10k WC Jelian looks to be out of the running after failing a fitness test with the Ethiopian trial race in Liege tonight. Jelian was dropped early in the race and faded further and further back from the eventual winner Desisa who won in 27.17

A pretty depressing night for athletics in Paris last night. What I thought would be a superb meet this close to the Olympics was spoiled by some of the problems that hold the sport back so much.
We can nearly ignore Justin Gatlin coming second in the 100 when he should be serving a life ban. The same for '18 year old' Hagos Gebrhiwet (check out his pictures, he looks like Sammy Davis Junior at 65) breaking the junior 5k record. The women's 1500 was the type of farce that drives fans away from the sport. Both athletes in first and second have served drugs bans. Both set big PB's in the race and destroyed a world class field. Letsrun say that the Turk in 2nd set a 5.5 second PB, that is unbelievable running. Literally, it is unbelievable to me that she did that on her own. I hate that these things stand out to me over truly once-a-generation athletes like Rudisha and Pearson but this type of b*llox will be the story for the mainstream press come London. |

Stephanie Rielly sets out her main goals for London! She seems to be in the form of her life at the moment. With a gutsy run and some luck on her side, she might be able to sneak a final place. |
