The National Stammering Awareness Day was a huge success again this year, a sincere thank you to all the keynote speakers, presenters, introducers, to all organisations who attended, to all who took on the challenge of the stammerers friend the "Roving Mic"

The feedback from the day has been extremly positive, it was great to see so many in one place to discuss and share their personal experiances of stammering in a safe supportive enviornment. It was also very positive to get recomendations for next years NSAD, keep them coming as we will look seriously at all suggestions.

The awareness of the support that is available for the stammering community in Ireland is vital. That we support all organisations, public , professional, and private who work with and care for the stammering community is also vital for the future of the present and the next generation of people in this country who are and will be challenged by stammering.

On behalf of Jonathon Linklater and myself we would like to thank you all for supporting the NSAD, thank you also to the sponsors for there kind donations and support.

The National Stammering Awareness Day for 2011 will be on Saturday the 22nd of October which also conincides with International Stammering Awareness Day. The venue will be the same as this year, The Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin.

We will keep you posted over the coming months.

A very good turn out despite the bad weather for the last "Lets Talk About Stammering" workshop of 2010 in Cork on Saturday last. The attendence of fourteen took an active part in the group discussions. During the day we focused on the psychlogical areas of stammering which I am sure you will agree is one of the main contributing factors which drives the stammering behaviour, mentality, and mindset.

A sincere thank you to all who attended the workshops not only in Cork but in Belfast, Dublin, and Athlone, during the year, without your participation, your experiances, and contributions during the workshops they would not work. The value of the workshops to people who are challenged by stammering has been very positive for all who attended, because of this positivity we will continue with the workshops, dates and venues for next year will be posted here before the 16th of January 2011.

I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas, a happy new year, and I look forward to meeting many of you in the new year.

The ISA self-help groups provides valuable emotional and social support for people who stutter, in a non-judgemental, relaxed environment. The burden of stuttering can be considerable, and you don't need to carry this alone. Also a great way to make new friends!

Irish Stammering Association is a charitable organisation which provides a nationally recognised voice for people affected by stammering. ISA provides information, encourages self-help groups throughout Ireland, influences policy, raises public awareness and works towards the improvement of early intervention measures for children.

    Hello all,

The McGuire Programme Ireland is holding a free open information afternoon in about two weeks. It will be held on June 9th from 1:30pm in Wynns Hotel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1.

Numerous speakers will take to the floor during the session which will last around an hour or so. Some speakers will recount their own personal speech journey in life, others will give some information about the programme. Everyone is free to attend, from people who stammer to family, friends and partners to speech therapists to people in the community who would like to be more informed.

People who attend will not be asked to speak on the floor or pounced upon for information, however if there are questions they can be put to the floor or you can have a quiet word with one of the speakers afterwards, where there will be light refreshments.

You can find more information about the event on our Facebook event page or on the McGuire Programme website. Information packs will be available at the event.

    Hi all,

I am an Alexander Technique teacher and a “LearningMethods” Apprentice Teacher. I recently worked with a client to help with stuttering, and given our positive results I am now interested in facilitating a 5-week LearningMethods class in Cork City for stuttering.

LearningMethods teaches you the tools to systematically explore your own experiences. By doing so it's possible to find the root cause of an issue with the potential of changing it. Some of the territory we may get in to includes: self-image, confidence, expectation, trying, and possibly exploring the anatomy and function of speech and how we can interfere with it.

The class will be Cork-based, and will be kept small at 4-5 people. Participants will receive weekly 2-hour lessons with continuous online support over 5 weeks. Cost will be €100 per person. I am aiming to begin this in July, though this will depend on the schedule of interested parties.

If you could pass this information to any person or groups who might be interested, I'd appreciate it.

I know some people find it challenging in a group, and I am open to working on a one-to-one basis also.

    Thanks,
    Andrew Monaghan
